Well done ,i am restoring a 1971 ex GPO van,mine started first time after 17 yrs abandoned, there is still life in these old girls...
@anotherpieceofskrap272 жыл бұрын
17 years, that's great, I guess it's the advantage of all mechanical with no electronics too, thanks for watching, we look forward to seeing how Marc progresses. 👍

My first motor way back in 1971 was an old ex post office Morris minor van. The old electric SU fuel pumps were prone to problems. The points in the fuel pump can be cleaned and adjusted. It’s mounted up beside the battery. Good luck lads.

Thanks👍 our fingers are crossed, were looking forward to seeing Marc's progress, and maybe waving a few spanners in anger ourselves. 😉

New subscriber here. Well what can I say.😂 It's alive. Rusty, broken with bits hanging off. What a great project. I certainly remember these vans on the road. I'm 66 now and I've been involved with classic cars and buses since I started work. Good luck with your project. I'm sure there will be a few Suprises along the way. I'm looking forward to seeing your updates. Cheers lads.👍

Thank you for watching and subscribing :-) we will be dropping in on Marc as he works through the project, we were relieved when it started, we really had no idea if it would run. His project provides a nice British balance to some of our other "vehicles" ;-)

Never put your thumb over the starting handle. If it kicks back on you it can take your thumb off or break it.

That’s quite a project you have there, looking forward to seeing the progress of your van 👍 the engine sounds okay 🤔 maybe check the oil and water prior to running it for any length of time. There’s also a red button you can press on top of the solenoid so you can start it from under the bonnet 👍
@anotherpieceofskrap272 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Marc has certainly taken something on, he has checked all the fluids now and so far so good-good tip on the red button.

Good old A Series, a bit of fettling and that will run like a dream. Might use a bit of oil and smoke more than the fire of London, but it will soldier on

Looking at the bulkhead colour i would guess it might has been a British Telecoms van when new , we had one of the ex Bt vans on our farm when I was a kid , it was called Buttercup . Finally met its end when the local milk tanker hit it on the lane by our farm .
@anotherpieceofskrap279 ай бұрын
Hi, yes it is an ex GPO van, it has a lot of the plates and graphics riveted inside.

How about going for the 1952 Morris Oxford which is just a big version of the Minor..A wonderful car and also built in India for many years.

I've seen people take spark plugs out and warm them up before trying to start an old car that's been stood for years. and it's pretty much like holding a burning rag near in an intake when starting an old diesel engine.
@anotherpieceofskrap272 жыл бұрын
It was pretty much the last resort, all 4 heated up really made a difference. We picked a really warm day for it to. No wait ... thank you for watching 🤓

You’re going to need a welder. 👍🏻
@anotherpieceofskrap272 жыл бұрын
We're gonna need a bigger welder..
@mattbritton62222 жыл бұрын
Well, yes, a welder, an electrician, some fresh dead dinosaurs, a few cow skins, and a few loops around the sun to get it done. Otherwise it’s Mickey Mouse. It’s just the colour I’m not sold on. Lol, jk, good work boys, actually doesn’t sound that bad.
@anotherpieceofskrap272 жыл бұрын
@@mattbritton6222 🤣 luckily we have a "Marc" he has an uncanny ability to turn prehistoric rust into greatness. I'm counting on that for the other projects we have 😁, thanks for watching and commenting. 👍
