The moment many have waited for all last year is finally here: It's time to kick off the 74th edition of the iconic Festival di Sanremo!
The first of five nights has just taken place, and we saw all 30 acts take the stage with their songs. At the end of the night, the press jury voting (TV and online media) formed a ranking to determine which acts are in the top five for the night. After the results were revealed, the top five are:
Loredana Bertè - "Pazza"
Angelina Mango - "La noia"
Annalisa - "Sinceramente"
Diodato - "Ti muovi"
Mahmood - "Tuta gold"

First sanremo night had an average of 10mill viewers (60% share) with peaks of 16 million. All the songs (30) made it to the italian spotify top 50 already and 4 of them made it to the global top 100. No, they don't have eurovision in mind (and i say this as a eurofan, but come on). Eurovision is a nice extra if they win, that's all.

Angelina and Annalisa are the favourite so far but, if I know Sanremo vote tradition a little, excluding excpetions like Mengoni when everyone felt from the start he was gonna win, the large majority of winners are not the first night favourites umfortunately. This is just statistics. Even Maneskin were not the favourite for victory. So I doubt either Angelina or Annalisa will win, considering the south voted en masse for Geolier this evening. But hey I am open to surprises

However, It's looking like Angelina has the upper hand looking at the first night results, which Annalisa didnt win btw. Berte and Mango did MUCH BETTER than expected. The thing is, Sinceramente is a mainstream bop. La Noia is also great, but could be this years Blanca Paloma: unique, but no one gives a shit about. Annalisa is a better bet for Eurovision in my opinion.

L'unica cosa fattibile è alzare anche di poco il livello del festival in modo da riattivare qualche neurone in chi guarda il festival. Poi negli altri paesi d'Europa fanno una gara di selezione per scegliere chi va all'Eurovision o Eurocontest, ma con Sanremo non c'entra nulla.

Annalisa for example has a riff with the bass and drums line that is almost identical to Kylie Minogue's Song "can't get out of my head".
