Will Jewish racism comments end Diane Abbott's political career?

Diane Abbott has apologised after the Observer newspaper published a letter written by her claiming Jews suffer a similar type of prejudice experienced by redheads.
The comments led to the Labour stalwart being suspended by the party.
She wrote that Irish, Jewish and Traveller people "undoubtedly experience prejudice", which she said is "similar to racism".
"But they are not all their lives subject to racism."
The letter - which she said was sent in error to the newspaper - was roundly criticised by politicians.

If the quote I have seen is all she wrote, I can't see what the controversy is. Is it not all true in the British context? My politics are very definitely not hers but I think she has been hung out to dry by her party. The experience of Black people under British rule was clearly rather different from that of the other groups she mentioned. For example, they alone suffered chattel slavery for generations. I get what she was trying to say, it's about definitions of words or semantics. In her head, Jewish people aren't a race so can't be a victim of racism but can be a victim of prejudice. The literal definition of racism was "prejudice against a race" but in more recent times, it was expanded to include ethnic groups. For starters, because Jews live all their lives subject to racism, and which is largely unchecked, unlike most other racism. And I'm not aware of any other people who fear to walk the streets as much as religious Jews. All prejudice is wrong, not all is down to racism or immutable characteristics, but can be a lifelong experience, if indeed that is of such great import. Rather than focussing on prejudice and discrimination in general, people like Abbott like to play the identity politics game. Here she is trying to establish a hierarchy of prejudical experience, which also hereby includes claiming racism isn't racism, while placing anti-black racism on top, thus making herself the ultimate victim. Her statements aren't solely anti-Semitic, but the anti-Semitism is most newsworthy in the context of the recent history of the Labour Party and in the wider historical context of the Labour Movement.

I don't see what all the fuss is about. She is basically saying that Irish, Jews and travellers experience discrimination (true on all counts) but none is intrinsically and inarguably defined by race (certainly arguable) and none have physical differences as immediately identifiable from birth as different skin colour (also arguably true although ginger hair is a stand out feature). It seems to me there are just that many people out there falling over themselves to be offended that failure to do so equates to not saying anything at all!
