Had friends that raised pigs..they called to let us know one of the sows was giving birth . We hurried to the farm and were able to see a few being born. She was partially laying on one, and it was squealing bloody murder. The owner got a pitchfork and gently encouraged the mama to move. I had to be quiet so we wouldn’t get the mama too excited, because sometimes they will eat their babies, but I could hardly stand to hear that baby screaming. All was well, finally.

Those piglets are adorable. At first the runt didn't know where to get milk or didn't want any, then he/she found the nipple to nurse on. Lola is a good mother letting you get close to them. She got excited when you were petting her with her babies right there. She didn't even react when you picked one up to move it when it squealed. Case is such a good brother to Adler. Smokey is a great LSGD. Have a great night.

Well I suppose it's understandable if Lola threw up a little bit after eating the afterbirth, since you looked like you'd throw up at the prospect of picking it up and moving it. Glad Lola and her 7 babies are doing well. And it's always so sweet seeing how excited Smokey gets at seeing Case, and how excited Adler gets at helping feed the animals. He uses Hay-bales at farrowing time for his pasture pigs. Just Another interesting way of doing it. Only ever had one animal we raised that we couldn’t eat. She was a runt pig we named Parsley. She and our dog would walk to the bus with our kids in the morning. In the afternoon they would walk to the end of the driveway and wait for the school bus. She got so big she loved to sleep in the sun on the porch of our bank farmhouse. If she was asleep in front of the door we had to go back upstairs and go out the other door. We always enjoyed having the pigs. Retiring to Florida, we left that all behind except for the good family memories.

There are hormones and nutrients in the afterbirth that Miss Lola will benefit from so don't move it. The hormones will help in milk production and make her uterus contract. It help her to recover from the birth. That little runt looks feisty. I'll bet it does just fine. Smokey has been a perfect mid-wife. Lola knows that she's your sweetheart. She just loved that head rub! Get some marshmallows and feed them to Hand Solo. He will be your BFF ... For Life! ( Give some to the others too. Especially Miss Lola.)

We had a friend that raised German Shepherd puppies. My wife stopped by to ask him a question about one of my sons dog and he had a puppy that was a runt he was so small the company he was selling to wouldn't take him. He ask if she knew anyone that was wanting a puppy. We had been talking about getting one so she called me to ask me what I thought about it. I told her to get him. The guy gave him to her with him papers. He was about half the size of a 8 week old puppy when we got him. He was from a great bloodline he grow up to be a normal size German Shepherd dog. Was 5 pounds heavier than one of our sons female that we bred him to.one of their puppies was one of the biggest German Shepherd I had ever seen he weighed 120 pounds. Being a runt is not bad if he is a fighter as long as he gets his place at the table he will be fine. God bless you'll. Love you'll. Dan

It's farm life if something happens it's natural. You can not be out there 24 7 like you can with puppies and kittens ya know. The runts are always the worry.
