You would need a magnet 1000X stronger than the ones usually found in laptops to do significant damage to a modern HDD or any other PC component anyway.

And a magnet has to br really strong. A fridge magnet won't cause a problem

They also need to be strong. Like REALLY strong. It can take a several-ounce neodymium magnet to damage a standard hard drive. And even then it doesnt damage the device itself, it just affects the data.
