As for Barcelona, they're getting a player who's currently in his peak even though he's 32 years old, but in recent seasons, Ilkay Gundogan has played the best football of his career for Manchester City and he's going into a Barcelona midfield that's already world class and many can question his role whether he starts or comes off the bench, but surely he has to get into that team. He's a player who is technical and has shown his goalscoring prowess he adds something different to this Barcelona team from midfield, and the likes of Pedri and Gavi are undroppable and you boast Frenkie De Jong as well, they might look for a Sergio Busquets replacement because Ilkay Gundogan is playing further forward whether he starts or not and that's his best role for Barcelona. They're getting not just a quality player, but someone who has loads of experience at the highest level, and is a leader and in this young team, Barcelona need veterans like him and serial winners too. Loss for Manchester City, but a big gain for Barcelona and there can be people questioning whether it was necessary for them to sign Ilkay Gundogan but given the form he's in, he's a player who'll fit right in at Barcelona.

I actually really admire what City is doing. Every great team suffers when the old guard start moving on. Milan in 2012, Juventus in 2015, Barcelona in 2015, Man Utd in 2012. But it looks like City are thinking ahead, knowing they've won everything they can, already preparing for a new generation. Pulling the cord on integral players now makes sense - it's always going to hurt, but when you're not afraid to move on from big players, that transition is a slow and steady revolving door, instead of a sudden drop off a cliff.

Somehow we believe that we can play like that again but that will never happen . When pep went to bayern and city fans and journalist asked if he would make them play like the barca team . He always said that's impossible because he doesnt have those types of players and cant get players like that . And he never played that way with both teams he coached . We have lost all those players and cannot get players like that again so we have to move on . Get players that can play similar and work with that . City has been playing attractive football and doesnt have players even close to busquets iniesta xavi Fabregas etc. So we need to move on and play similar footbal with what we have .

Ilkay Gundogan leaving Manchester City for Barcelona is a shock to many, but it's been expected for months. Yes, they just won the treble and he was so so crucial to that team but he's 32 years old, has won everything there is to win at Manchester City and when Barcelona come calling, I don't blame him for turning them down and they'll miss him big time. Mateo Kovacic is an excellent midfielder who on his day is really good, but I'm not convinced with his consistency. During his time at Real Madrid, he wasn't bad but was a sporadic player there, and not his fault because Toni Kroos Luka Modric and Casemiro were in their peaks, at Chelsea he's gotten more game time and has had great moments there but is very injury prone and can be average at times and he was often in and out of the starting lineup. In my opinion, Mateo Kovacic is a big downgrade on Ilkay Gundogan but with his box to box qualities and the energy he brings to a midfield, Manchester City will sort things out with him and see what he offers in their team.

Miss him as a player?? Yes!! A lot, he was always there for City in the clutch moments. But miss him as a captain that is debatable. Only thing good about him is his work rate. Gavi proved crucial for Xavi's game , he is a relentless presser and destroyer off the ball and is very technical. Almost all Barça goal has him involved or winning the ball. Gavi keeps the intensity high

⛔️ Barça signed him only because "HE IS FREE", so he is lucky because Barça is living in its worst time. Otherwise, Gundogan would never have dreamed of such an offer at this stage of his career (33 years old and he gets a contract with 3 years). This is evidence that Gundogan is not as strong as some believe, but rather Barca is the weak side because he is a FREE agent.. He might be good with City in finals under guardiola of course with a specific system of play, but no one can guarantee that he keeps the same form until next season with different club, different teammates and different environment.. even Messi or Ronaldo couldn't adjust from season 1.. Who can resist the request of a wife? None. Yes he will be missed on some games but to play for MC is very demanding on long run. It was shocking to see just after the UCL final the tears, tired players and relaxation. My concern is that the top players may not decide well. CR would be on top at RM, Messi also.
