I have seen a couple of fairies at The Forrest Hills cemetery in Boston, USA and one of them I did see as an orb of light a few meters off the ground. I absolutely saw it as a benevolent fairy and felt no mischief from it, it was a peaceful and happy experience. I am Irish American and tales I had heard of the Will O’ The Wisp growing up had always had me think of it as a mischievous or even malevolent phenomenon that lures people. I actually did not make the connection between the Will O’ The Wisp and this sighting until listening to this podcast today. Makes sense now with the connection you pointed out between the dampness of cemeteries and bogs. This cemetery has a large pond within it and I was near the pond at the time of the sighting.

I've never personally seen a Will O' The Whisp, but I do have a couple of similar things in a story that I'm working on.

Ooh what are they?

Great this, thanks. ive seen them, or a similar phenomena. it seemed alive. like a group of beings. i was with a friend and the whole experience was full of strangeness, too much to go in to here. we saw them next to a small river but we heard them first. we followed what sounded like children's voices then discovered the sound was coming from the river its self, then we saw them.

I like this one. My theory is that they are the primal spark of consciousness, the original mystery. If you try to catch them and solve the mystery by chasing them no good can come of it. I suppose there is no reason why they should not play their faerie mischief with the souls of the dead as well. Best to leave offerings and stick to the path?

Absolutely! Stick to where you're going.

i recommend the book "the lights upon the hills" by richard rokeby. the author deals with light phenomena / orbs that afflicted burton dassett in 1923! 🖖🎅

Wondering if someone could help me out? It's not a novel, it's a short ghost story that I listened to quite some time ago, but cannot for the life of me remember the title or author. Nor can I find traces of the story literally anywhere I search. It's driving me mad because I really want to read it. I do remember what it's about though! Two young boys (cousins I think) that live some miles apart decide to walk and meet up with each other half way from their homes. After they meet each other they decide to play around in the nearby graveyard for fun. Long story short they end up spotting an eerie light (or candle flame, can't quite recall) that floats into the little church (or crypt) by itself with nobody holding it. One of the boys decides to follow it in because he claimed that the face of the one who is to die will appear within the flame, and he wanted to see who it was 👀 ....I'm not going to spoil the ending incase someone else is curious and wants to find & read for themselves. But if anyone knows which story I'm talking about, please let me know. It's driving me crazy, lol. Thanks :)

That's the assumption based on the ritual deposits in them, yes.
