Rassie as head coach is going to stir a whole lot of competition and determination around the World, he brings a level of excitement and anticipation every outing and makes for good entertainment, love him or hate him it feels like rugby has finally got a hero and villain feel about it. I've noticed coaches are all getting more vocal with personalities coming to the fore which adds to the drama. I just hope refs will not be targeted for minor lapses and get some mitigation and support from media to stop idiots from threatening them and players, we need more refs not less, with so little separating the top teams there is bound to be moments that both sides feel aggrieved. Whoever says Rugby is boring is not paying attention. Which other sport gets people talking and supporting their sides with such passion.

Some even say Jesse Kriel was fine and didn't need an HIA therefore Sam Cane did not deserve the red which I find crazy. So should the player end up crippled first, before we issue a red? I think it's does more to protect players to punish the offense, to avoid future incident, despite the result of the tackle

Thanks for the whole season of pods. It's been an absolute staple in my feed! Really would have loved the 'refs coaching in game' convo (mid pod) to have gone a bit longer and not included reference to the TMO, cause it is becoming such a big part of the game! As a touch ref we do way more of this 'in game coaching' than in rugby but it can be a very slippery slope. See you next year team!

The Breakdown unfortunately suffers from unrelenting bias from Jeff Wilson and to a lesser extent John Kirwan and if not for Mils, I would have thrown in the towel.
@davesmith826 Жыл бұрын
No, for two reasons: 1) The Boks lack strength in depth in key positions, but in particular front row and second row. 2) South Africa had the oldest squad in the World Cup and many of their standout players will not be around for the next one. Etzebeth, Koch, Le Roux, Mostert, Nykane, Mapimpi, and De Allende off the top of my head. De Klerk, Kolbe, PTSD and De Jager may be young enough, but have too many miles on the clock to be relied on. PTSD is running around with a piece of his father's ACL in his leg, Kolbe gets a serious injury every year, etc. The next World Cup will go to New Zealand, partly because they've got a real coach now, partly because they'll be playing close to home, partly because they're New Zealand and no one keeps them down for too long. They will use the heartbreak of the final to motivate themselves and will return to levels comparable to 2015, although I don't think they'll match that side because you need generational talents in key positions and you can't find them in four years!
@StevenBenjaminAuthor Жыл бұрын
In terms of refs 'coaching' players during the game (referring to Sexton/Etzebeth), the thing is, many top players know the rules so well, like McCaw knowing the rule book better than some refs. And they analyse areas so in depth. YOu can often see Etzebeth asking the ref, or pointing at things he sees to check if the ref sees it the same way (is the ball out, is the last player binding properly - which affects the offside line). So with that in mind, I think there's some leniency with refs in regard to boundaries, because the margins can be quite small.

@@IAMJEFFREY-cw9ns Saffas are the most delusional fans in the history of all sport. Rather than being grateful and reflective for their most fortuitous fluke in the history of the RWC, saffas are to be found everywhere gloating like kindergarten children claiming their daddy is the strongest. This Springbok team is the most overated team in the history of sport. They were at best the 4th best team at the tournament, and there is a case to made that they were the 5th best team. Ireland beat them easily even though their lineout completely malfunctioned. France were all over the Springboks. For much of that game it was like watching men against boys. The French smashed you and only dubious decisions from the ref kept the Springboks in it. Antoine Dupont was spot on in his criticism of the ref. It was a diabolical performance from the ref that got the Boks through that game. Likewise a rubbish England side were better than the Boks. Arguably the weakest English side in a generation had the better of the Springboks. The same in inept ref got you through that semi at the end by 1 point. Then again in the final against a team that played 69 minutes with 14 men, the Springboks prevailed by 1 point with the help of a biased tmo. The Springboks couldn't even score a try against 14 men, but had tries scored against them by 14 men. Three dubious 1 point flukes - a one pointer against the French who were so superior it was embarrassing to watch the ref give the Boks victory, a one pointer against the weakest English side in a generation, and a one pointer against a New Zealand side that played most of the game with 14 men. Well done Springboks in the greatest fluke in the history of all sport. A good result for clearly the 5th best team at the tournament. However it is cringy witnessing the Saffas gloat like children that they think their daddy is the biggest. A bit of self awareness and gratitude for the good fortune of their fluke seems beyond most Saffas.

New Zealand scored their try off a drop forward/forward pass. If that had been properly officiated the Springbok win would have been even more convincing. Also, the drop forward at the lineout should have immediately been whistled. The Springbok players could be audibly heard calling for a penalty when it happened and the ref ignored it. This gave the All Blacks an advantage they didn't deserve. The Springboks won on merit.@@JaemanEdwards

Am I correct by saying the AB's and their fans would rather lose to the Boks than to a Northern hemisphere team? I remember in 2019 New Zealanders were gutted for quite some time after their semi final loss to England. This time they are clearly disappointed like anyone would be but it seems there is more of an acceptance.
@JaemanEdwards11 ай бұрын
As a Kiwi, I would rather lose to France, Wales, and Scotland than the Springboks. But I'd rather lose to the Springboks than England and Ireland because we dislike them even more than Saffas. And the acceptance is because regardless of the end result, the world still understands that the All Blacks are still the best and would have beaten the Springboks fairly comfortably without that ridiculously soft red card. And the All Blacks scored 49 tries to the Springboks 27 tries. They scored 100 points more than 2nd most France. All we ask of the All Blacks is that they uphold our standards and play rugby as it was intended. Run, pass, and score tries. Not maul, kick, and await penalties or cards.

Thank you for a well balanced show, it's refreshing to see because I am extremely disappointed in New Zealand Rugby, which in my opinion has a hell of a lot to answer for wrt their performance in the world cup final, Frizzell deliberately injuring Bongi, and their shockingly poor level of discipline which has gone unchallenged for years now, as well as the atrocious fan, player and management reaction to losing the World Cup. It seems in the World of Rugby, the Springboks can expect to never receive the same level of respect from New Zealand as we have been willing to give. Our greatest captain, Siya Kolisi is just one example of how our Rugby players conduct themselves. Fair Play, let's go for the great treble and see what happens then...

SA has so much young depth coming thru...if u look at our urc teams and how we focus on giving youngsters game time we are looking golden...just hoping politics dont get in the way because at the end of the day the best men/players must be picked just like 2019 and 23

@@josephconradie5935 yeah because they want to change it again...change the springbok name because its an "apartheid name" which is such bs because the name has been the springboks since 1906...way before apardheid

@dandreehlers9817 yes I hear you regarding that point but the colour representation is no longer a problem and yes the name Springboks has been established long before South Africa was even a Republic

Well it's four more years but Rassie and Jaqueboth stated they planned long term for the 2023 world cup. 2019 was just pure goodluck. Pretty much all teams are back to square one so it'll be fascinating to see how all the teams pan out

If Rassie recruits Eddie Jones don't be surprised. It's the 4th time world champions anyway. We always surprise people.😂😂😂 Honestly though, we need a conditioning coach and a defense coach. Losing Nienaber and Felix Jones will definitely dent the Boks a little bit.

The red card laws needs to be reviewed punish the player not the team. Perhaps off for 20 mins is a possibility or player can be replaced after 10 but he gets a 2 game ban?

The only issue with Refs NOT coaching or screaming at players to leave it etc, would be that different refs interpret the laws differently. Eben has made some great calls at the breakdown with the ball being out or players not being bound, but in some cases despite him being correct, (players at the breakdown not bound or hands on the floor, etc) he still gets blown up. The ref screaming makes this clearer as to THEIR interpretation and easier for players to understand where they stand.

29:21 on the TMO… it appears to have come about after Wayne Barnes missed the fwd pass that knocked the ABs out in 2007. It seems the irony of AB fans up in arms about the TMO interference is lost on them.

Rassie isn’t taking the job to NOT try the next RWC, as hard as that task will be statistically. He’ll have a plan - that we know. And that plan will include the development of players, structures and new ideas in the field. Love it. I for one hope he hires Matt Williams if only to end his nonsense punditry and to teach him the beauty of a power based game where set piece has its rightful place. His first task would be: “ 8-0 bench - how to make this work for us” 😂

NZ don't mind losing with 1 point - BUT - it was losing with 1 point to the *SPRINGBOKS* - their arch-enemy/rival! Both teams were poised for their 4th respective RWC trophy. NZ now has to be seen as 2nd best (from 1st) in International Rugby, as Springboks have have achieved their 4th RWC trophy (50% success rate) in only 8 tournaments - NZ has played 10 tournaments and only have 3 RWC trophies (30% success rate) to show for it! Just before the RWC23, the Springboks played the All Blacks in Twickenham, UK in front of a packed crowd. The Springboks defeated them 35 - 7! This was the All Blacks' worst loss ever!

As a Boy growing up in Australia many many many years ago , about the time when we used to beat the All Blacks I was told , ''Wallabies eat Kiwi's ' and we did ...sometimes but most of the time I was told ... Someone once said to a All Black... '' You play like its a matter of life or death , to be met with the retort.....''Its much more important than that or A spectator was watching a game of Rugby and asked someone ''Who are the blokes in Black , only to be told ''They are the All Blacks''... And he replied ''They should be called The All Backs '' ..... Me thinks with Razor in charge you soon will be going back to the good old days,,, only ...better . Meanwhile in Australia the Wallabies wallow woefully and look like doing so for some time to come , Until we start rebuilding the grass roots , start finding some Indigenous players, AFL and Rugby league have them even football/soccer has them, and start raising the profile of playing the greatest team in the world the All Blacks until we change change will not happen.
