I legitimately had tears in my eyes watching this part. I grew up watching Sheckler as he's only a few years younger than me. And knowing the hell that man has gone through and the surgeries!!! For him to put this part out with this caliber of skating blew me away! I jumped out of my seat at least 4 times and definitely had to rewind at least a dozen times the first time I watched it. I'd give him soty even if he didn't drop another thing all year. That's how big this part really is.

The problem with SOTY is that many people deserved it and were denied it. Torey Pudwill put 4 parts out and SLS in 2011, but AVE got it for 1 part. Last year, Nyjah started a board brand, SLS, and came out with amazing parts. But Tyshawn wins it for 1 part. Also, TJ rogers had cancer and still put out 4 parts. SOTY became a bit of a joke. Yeah, it's hard to say who wins when multiple people deserve it. But there have been years that were stolen from some. Ryan I think deserves it for the decades of work but sadly will not get it.

-Nyjah should’ve won last year -Joslin or Evan Smith should’ve won in 2018 over Tyshaun -Paul Rodriguez should’ve won multiple times. Most notably his “Me, Myself and I” year. That was the very first solo part released to buy. Leo Romero won that year. -Andrew Reynolds also released Stay Gold in 2010. Crazy Leo won over he and P-Rod -Guy or Figgy should’ve won in 2012 over David Gonzales. Guy had Pretty Sweet and Figgy dominated that whole year -Shane Onell should’ve won in 2017 over Foy and either he or Nyjah should’ve won over AVE in 2015. They released “Shane goes” and “OMFG” that year. -Pudwill should’ve won in 2011 over Grant Taylor imo. Thrasher has let legends come and go without winning. They rarely choose correctly

I think the issue is that people think "SOTY" is an actual Skater of the Year award and wasn't just created as publicity for a magazine to sell copies. Winning it doesn't make you Skater of the Year, it makes you THRASHERS "skater of the year". Kelly seems to get it. It doesn't matter what the community wants because it's not a community award, it's Thrashers award. But the community puts the weight into it to hold it to a community standard. The community could put that weight into any "soty" award and it would be the new "real soty". Thrasher doesn't decide, we do.

One was done by Colin Provost and I think the other one was done by Gilbert Crockett. It wasn’t a bad part by any means, but those ABD’s and the multiple times he did the same trick (at different spots) didn’t really do a lot for me. There were a couple things that I was stoked on (like the BS Flip over the fence and the Cab Flip over the wall), but I wasn’t really feeling it.
