I thought my gearcase was leaking, but it turned out that my rope had absorbed moisture from being stored in my humid covered truckbed and when squeezed by the capstan, it forced the moisture to drip out. It really looked like the gearcase was leaking oil, but it was dirty water.

Thanks for you comment. Indeed, dirty water can be confused with grease.
