Janet Hubert was the best aunt Viv. She had the looks, the style, charisma and the talent that a professional actress was supposed to have. We noticed the switch. But there was no one to question about it. So we just moved on. We remembered the original aunt Viv came to mind every time we heard or saw the 2nd one.

I agree...the show was not the same without Janet. The show lost something dynamic when they lost Janet. Will has a grown up a lot, when he said he wants to protect Janet not unleash dogs on her was wise...that was the lesson right there and he learned it. Also I never could watch the show with the new viv without noticing original Janet was gone...I used to watch Roseann when old Becky left and it was noticeable but not like Janet leaving the show. I watched switches on soaps like days of our lives also and still nothing was as noticeable as new viv vs old viv..I'm not sure why other then Janet played the part to a T. I also thought the look was so different..the new aunt Viv was such a drastic change visually..the two women looked and sounded and acted completely different, it was like a stranger was in the Banks home, and suddenly uncle Phill had a new woman..I couldn't see them as being the same character, my teenage mind back then couldn't accept that new aunt Viv and old aunt Viv were suppose to be the same person.

She will not be let in that close again obviously but forgiveness was important for her to hear and me to say and mean because I also needed to hear her say she never meant or wanted to hurt us and that she was deeply sorry and told me that I am a lovely lady . I don't understand why ppl keep saying he destroyed her life, he did not destroy her life b/c he was a young kid, he was of age but he was young and he had no control over her life. She was a grown woman despite what was going on in her personal life the network gave her an option which ppl fail to recognize. She chose what she wanted to do even though they cut her salary she still had a job again she chose and b/c she made a wrong decision she should have accepted responsibility instead of blaming a young adult kid. Noone can bare another person's burdens her hardships were her hardships to go through. She was not an uneducated black woman she was very smart her downfall was that she held a grudge and had animosity for something that was not meant for her to have and this festering anger she held kept her from moving on. Again it was not meant for her and in life if there's a job that you were terminated from or you resigned whatever the case may be you move on you find another job and move on. She had the characteristics of a disgruntled postal worker who lost his job and held on to all this anger just to come back and shoot up the place but would blame everyone except herself for her decisions. That's just my opinion

She could have received the blessing that was being given to her. She needed that time to get herself and her family together. Those reduced hours could have given her an opportunity to be a mother and wife. Then get back on track. No blame, just trying to share a different view.
@calluspeculiar85794 жыл бұрын
Hmm never really saw it this way. I think that's because perhaps her pride and dignity didn't allow her to accept less than what she and her family deserved. There was a strength and integrity in that choice. But she probably did not expect to end up with absolutely nothing and never work again. In that sense, Will's words did have power. His actions directly affected her pay cut based upon something he was feeling but wasn't true. I guess Janet held to certain principles about not accepting that deal, but she ended up with nothing in the long run. Will moved on and made millions and never looked back to help (as far as we know). I do think he is partly responsible. To your point though, I see what you're saying. Perhaps if she'd dealt with the pay cut she would've at least had time to build a reputation and maybe recover what was lost some time in the future. Maybe she wouldn't have lost her home or would've been able to support her children at least which seems more important than pride. This has been ugly for 30 years and all of the mudslinging got them nowhere. So I guess she has a part to play too.
@shihoblade4 жыл бұрын
People are simple folk. Will comes out crying a lil bit and everyone forgets that he wasnt the only one who had trouble with her. They forget that she only responds to publicity that paints her positively which mean Will had to play her story out just to get her at the reunion. They forget that she isnt actually a mother figure for him, she is a co worker who plays a side character on his show and that he was within his right to surround himself with the kind of people that fit his business direction.

@@anuncolonizedmind6296 you know they have paid publicist to whom should have told him to handle it like a grown man or Will should have known exactly what he was doing.

My point exactly. Don’t play with people’ s emotions. You know wronged someone for years, go say sorry quietly if you are genuine .you don’t need a documentary or a TV show in order to do so. Unless you are after something.

Everyone keeps saying " he destroyed her life" he didn't destroy her life.. she did. U aren't supposed to let anyone have that much power over your life, we are responsible for our own life. This is why most ppl live miserable lives, instead of taking control of their life.. they would rather blame other ppl.

I don't really agree with Janet. If people at work don't know what personal struggles you're going through, how are they supposed to support if you don't communicate to them? Instead, she lashed out at them which is unprofessional.

Maybe because in the 90s, people didn't play up being a victim like they do today. Everyone today is a big victim, its sickening. She obviously came from a generation that sucked it up & didn't cry about her personal problems like everyone does now. People act traumatized by the most ridiculous things these days.
@n.m.37603 жыл бұрын
@@kleeamd8274 but she did play the victim big time for decades. She was crying for years at how the cast mistreated her.
@kleeamd82743 жыл бұрын
@@n.m.3760 I was only responding to your suggestion that she should have told the cast about her problems at the time. Furthermore, she wasn't playing the victim in the years after Will Smith did her dirty, she was simply putting him on blast so people would know that he isn't who he pretends to be. Theres a difference. He deserved to be called out. She was setting the story straight since he maligned her to everyone in the industry they worked in, which cost her jobs. She had every right to tell her side. That's not being a victim, to tell your side.

when she said "why did you have fear of me" i felt that in my spirit. honestly, Will would never admit it but he was intimidated by a Black woman (which says more about him and his internal biases and trauma with maternal figures than it says about her).

Will made a mistake but who isn’t ? What makes me an awesome man is what he did at the end !!!!!!! Thank you Will!!!!! What a great lesson for all of us. I’m pretty sure this type of thing is normal in Hollywood but Will got the gut to face and ask forgiveness to one person he did wrong.
