Bystedt had a great game. Looks like a legit 3c. Smith was definitely hit or miss but some of his passes to Toffoli surprised me even knowing his game.

I have always been high on Bystedt, even after his sub par season in the SHL last year I still thought he'd benefit from the narrower ice in North America and I think his AHL stint to end last season plus games like this show that h'e going to be an incredibly valuable piece to the next Sharks contender as a Suped Up 3C behind Celebrini and Smith. Love watching Bystedt play, he makes the right decision so often!

Anyone who watched his BC games last year know he is not exactly a play driver. You won't really notice him on the ice for the majority of the game and then all of a sudden he'll surprise you with 2 or 3 insane passes and end up with a 3-assist game. It's both frustrating and amazing at the same time.

I would disagree that he is not a play driver. He is just more subtle at it.

@LockedOnSharks Cam Robinson was complaining about the same issues with Smith a few months ago. I'm not saying hes gonna be a bust. The potential and ceiling is there, but he just needs certain conditions to exist in order to reach it.

I feel like Wennberg is going to draw a lot of penalties this year.

I could see a lot of potential in Smith, but I think he really struggled to find chemistry with his line mates. He made some impressive passes under pressure but they were either off target or not handled well.

@@LockedOnSharks Agreed. But I don’t think he will be a game changer this current season like a lot of people are hoping. Its stupid to compare him to Celebrini all the time for obvious reasons, but I think Celebrini is already at a point where he can perform a center role at the nhl level and has natural chemistry with whoever he plays with. I think Smith will take more time to adjust and get to a point where he can be a serious nhl center. Overall I agree with a B rating. Maybe B-

JD, do you think Will Smith will end up being better, the same, or not as good as Marleau was when his career is over? (A 2nd overall pick vs 4th overall pick, drafted in similar spots) And, do you think Celebrini (in his NHL prime in a few years) will end up being similar in season-long point production, or not as good as Joe Thornton was? (Both 1st overall draft picks) They’re all different players obviously, in size, style of play, etc.. but just wondering if you think Will Smith can equal Marleau’s point production, and if Celebrini can come close to Joe Thornton’s point production when the kids reach their prime in their mid-20’s. Smith & Celebrini strike me as 25-35 goals and 50-60 assists each season when they hit their prime. Marleau was around 80 points in his prime, and Thornton was around 90-100+ points in his prime. So, just wondering as I fantasize about the Sharks bright future, do you think Smith & Celebrini *will* put up points similar to that when they hit their prime… or do you think they’ll be very good, but not quite as good as 80-100 points multiple times in their career? (They obviously *can* do it, but do you think they *will* do it?)

Celebrini should be a perennial 100 point player and Smith will slot in as a PPG type of player.
@ThingsWorseThanDeath
@ThingsWorseThanDeath Ай бұрын
@@LockedOnSharks Wow really?! Celebrini projects to be 100+ points per year… sweet. I was thinking 80-90. That’s awesome -> my fantasy just got even better, lol. Do you think the team needs to add 1 or 2 pure goal scorers eventually though? A guy who scores more goals than assists, like Auston Matthews (or Toffoli… but add a young Toffoli who will be around when we contend in a few years after the real Toffoli is gone). It seems like our entire young core is made up of really solid 2-way players, and guys who will have twice as many assists as goals every year. Which most of the team should absolutely be. But, do you think that’s a successful strategy, or should we eventually draft or sign or trade for a pure sniper or 2 when we’re ready to contend? (**OR, do we already have a young guy who could be that sniper like that in the system?)

@@LockedOnSharks oh yeah that’s right, we heard about Halttunen’s monster shot. Right on! Hey bro, this is off topic, but while I have your attention I thought I’d make a suggestion… Ned Colletti, current Sharks scout and former SFG & LAD GM, often makes appearances on ‘NorCal Sports Network,’ a SF Giants YT channel, to talk baseball and the Giants.. -> It would be awesome if you could get him to be a guest on your show for an interview. He really enjoys being a guest on that channel to talk ball. I bet he’d love to come on with you to talk some puck before the season starts here. Especially because he’s a scout and our scouts are currently playing a huge role in the Sharks rebuild right now. He’s a smart dude, very candid, and I’d love to hear him talk about the team and the process of this rebuild that he, Mike Grier, and the rest of the front office are currently straight kicking ass on. Love the channel bro, thanks for the interaction!
