Dude, I literally cried when I heard the ending song version of Simple and Clean for Kingdom Hearts 1. That was in fact, the first time I ever cried when playing a video game and it was just because I was just so awe struck that a game could affect me to such an extent and make me actually feel true emotions while playing a game. It truly cemented the game for me as one of the most amazing video game experiences of all time.

To me, Kingdom Hearts is one of those series where there's just no good way to make a movie out of it. The story is too heavy and convoluted-video game movies only work when their source material is so episodic and light on plot that the film can work as its own self-contained yet still original narrative, like with Sonic the Hedgehog. With Kingdom Hearts, there'd be no way to do that. You could either try and remake the main story into a two-hour movie, which would butcher it and take away 90% of the plot, leaving it deeply unsatisfying to fans and lackluster to others; or, you could try to make a new story narratively connected to the series plot, but then that would turn away prospective newbies and non-gamers to the film who may not be interested in playing a series of games just to understand a two-hour movie; or, still, you could make a story set in the KH universe that was totally unrelated to the rest of the series, which would be digestible to movie-goers but pointless to fans of the franchise. So, there's really no way to win with trying to make a film adaptation of this series. I know we all like fantasizing about the idea, but really, I've never thought making a Kingdom Hearts movie was a good idea. There's just no way to do it really well. And let's all not forget: probably one of the weakest elements in the franchise IS the writing. Nomura is a bad writer, and when you don't have great gameplay to distract from that, the prospect of a film as told by someone like Nomura starts to become pretty sour.

And personally, I enjoy really convoluted stories (and make no mistake, KH IS a convoluted story-if not by virtue of its plot, then by virtue of how many details are left to the player to figure out, like why Vanitas looks like Sora or how Ursula comes back at the beginning of DDD, etc.). But the fact is, most people get turned off by that. And, I'm sorry, but "needing to explain things in detail better" is by definition bad writing.

I think it could happen but it will take precise story plot stitching into a 2hr format. Honestly most of the disney worlds were short anyway and I think itll be easy chop them down with montages and or slimming down ways to get to plot. Like in Wonderland they could slim down the evidence hunt to montage or just to him finding the heartless box. Its the other games that would be harder as they introduce much more. Kh1 would be fine imho.

@@Zelink108 The main issue that KH has is that they keep making up new stuff as they go along, which causes recons and plot holes. Like in DDD they butcher the Nobody lore by confirming that they can grow hearts of their own making their whole ambush in KH2 pointless. Nomura needs to stop adding new BS after BS with the same source material and try something completely new that doesn't follow that same story. In other words one saga that has a new villian that's not a Xehanort and new original characters (That are not Sora!). Or just make a sepurate universe with a new cast a characters like MOST rpg games do!

He did name Sora with "Sky" in mind. He said that he named the Destiny Islanders after the three elements that make up the world, which were Sky, Land, and Sea (nautical mile, technically). He wasn't thinking of a weather phenomenon like Cloud, Squall, Tidus, and Lightning were. The very next question confirms with "Kai" that that was the theme they were going with. "The Pixar team would be best-suited for a Kingdom Hearts movie." Pixar isn't the only facet of Disney that does CGI films, if that's what you mean. The most recent Disney Animated Canon films are CG. But they're still better than the Square Enix movie developers.

I think you kind of misunderstood the Sora naming question. It’s not a coincidence that his name means sky, that was clearly planned as he said the names were created to represent the core elements of the Destiny Islands; land, sea and sky. I think he specifically was talking about Sora’s name not neccessarily being linked to weather in the same way some other Square main protagonists are.

There's too much content for KH to be made into a movie. An anime-cartoon hybrid series would be best in my opinion, with certain 'arcs' being made into a feature length production. A Kingdom Hearts movie otherwise would need to be an original story (and preferably canon) and focusing more on the main cast & plot rather than retreading the stories of the other Disney films.

Unpopular opinion, I really just want KH to stay the way it is. If it becomes a movie, I would want it to stay with Square Enix. Even though They are considered Disney Characters, we associate them more with Square Enix. I love that it’s getting the recognition it needs, but I don’t want it over hyped. Animation series might be the way how it should go and honestly needs right now, cause right now series seems to take both Square and Disney elements, smash them together without the charm of either franchise staying intact. Series has become too much of lore-fill, focusing on trying to make its taped story stay intact, instead of just focusing on characters and letting their charisma lead the viewer along the story. Series need it cause for now the games really lack in characterization front, where chars are kinda bland and stiff (partly due technical limitations). Now, on animation platform it would be possible to bring more life into characters and allow the destruction of their world be perceived through their eyes. Episodic formula could be used to explore certain Disney-worlds while also bringing up themes and world-building along the mix. It is not impossible task. And heck, The Union story really earns well animated series. Maybe exploring the feelings of residents, feeling growingly anxious about upcoming fight and the time when they must likely strike down their own neighborhoods they last evening had cup of tea with.

I think you're kinda misinterpreting Nomura about not having weather in mind when he named Sora. The interviewer was connecting FF names to weather. So Nomura was saying that Sora wasn't supposed to be a connected thought to Cloud, Squall and Tidus, just connected to Kairi, and Riku as the group of elements. In short, "I was thinking of the elements, not weather". It was still a poetic choice, because the sky and the sea are always apart and stuff.

Hmm...don’t think a movie would work. It depends tho. Obviously a remake of one of the games is just stupid. Not a bright idea to make something that explicitly tries to tie into the main arc. If they made something completely fresh, then yea. Or even if they made a movie similar to 358 Days where it spends more time developing the characters and their relationships rather than expanding on the over arcing plot only for it to become relevant years later. Just for the love of God...Nomura should not write it.

I honestly hope they wouldn't appear in a movie... because Sora basically came in and either was standing there cheering on or doing the hero's role. His role 9 out of 10 times was supporting till he got to the unique worlds. Sora himself does develop but he remains static. He is like Ash in Pokemon. Forever stupid and weak but insanely powerful and broken. It just either becomes an annoying insertion... or too much focus on a character who in of himself isn't interesting enough to carry an entire plot... except the original Ash did have character progression before they started swapping out his party and stealing Pikachu's experience. Sora is in that state where he is kind of a fan service character or Player Stand In. Making a good anything off that is hard when there isn't something to grip the player. Either pushing the graphics/art or having a fun game, a fun game which a movie would replace if a movie was used. If the movie was good... then it would've been better as a game you play or some plot to continue things... as opposed to a movie you must watch to understand bits and pieces of new lore for the next 10 games. Sora as even a cameo would be bad... but having a gummie ship as a cameo or more importantly having a key blade in the background. Then when you get the next KH game you're there before the events of the Movie... and maybe lose your key blade for a bit as you're knocked out and kidnapped only for Sora to call it to him later and later return to help that world. So now the game isn't literally the exact same as the movie/whatever.
