Learn more about the ROG Flow X13 here: rog.gg/ttthefineprintttt
Today I test if Starlink will work in a forest with a ton of obstructions around. Can you even get internet here? If so, is it enough to game, live stream, or work remotely off of? Find out in this video!

A lot of people forget that the disconnecting in streaming things like FPS games on Starlink will come when the satellites swap your connection over as they pass by. It's sort of like a handshake between the satellites that has to complete before you can continue the packets.

having some sort of extendable flag pole attached to your van could potentially help EDIT: I guess you mention that at the end. You don't have to get the dish above the trees, any elevation will help. Starlink wants 100 degrees which is not horizon to horizon luckily. If you were in a clearing surrounded by 100ft tall trees, and it was 100ft away to the base of the nearest tree, you'd have 90 degrees. If you were able to raise the dish 20ft, you'd get 102 degrees of sky view, which would be enough.

It will also improve with more satellites being launched. With a denser mesh, the closed satellite is closer to vertically above you. Starlink also uses the red blocked area's to predict when the satellite it is using will be blocked, and can switch to a different one just before that, IF another one is available, which depends greatly on the number of operational satellites.

@@Sam-TheFullBull I've not read anywhere that they don't plan to use them for many many years but I'm not totally sure anymore. It is an alarming number when you consider there's about 4000 satellites currently in orbit. Knowing space x though they will probably be able to retrieve and reuse the old satellites someday. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if Star link/space x were going to be the first to start actually doing something about space debris in the first place.

I live in a redwood forest (in trees TALL AF) and have Starlink (came on in Beta) as well as a (low bandwidth) radio wave transmitted internet for more consistency. Starlink here is great for our update & other larger downloads. Sometimes it works for videos if allowed to buffer enough of it to fill in gaps from that. As they continue to launch more satellites, it improves a bit. We're at a decent latitude (the further north, the greater the concentration of satellites) which I'm sure helps a bit. We'll see how it goes from here.

Wrong, big issue. My connection was out for at least 20-30 minutes today & same nearly every day this time of year in SW Florida. However long it’s storming, the signal is gone. This is really interesting, I've had a lot of issues with remote internet when travelling and gaming in my caravan in Australia. I was considering Starlink, but staying in a lot of state forests and very remotely a lot of the time, I was worried about wasting my money on something that would not work. I'm playing Lost Ark to US servers which is already 202ms in the city, so this seems like not something that would stand up to gaming remotely.

I live with some trees around, but will be able to get it higher, and I would be totally fine with this since Im not playing competetive, but rather slow paced games like Flight Simulator, GTA V RP etc.. :D Will absolutely be better than what I have now (Normal satelite network)...

Hi, nice video. I was wondering if you could do a test uploading a video to youtube to see if it works. A personal question: if you depended on your salary from youtube, would you trust only starlink? Congratulations for the channel.
