Andy had such a cool character arc. It’s such an incredible full-circle arc for a single season. Ends in a reasonable way considering how it started. But also ends in a way that his arc could continue as a returnee.

It was so fun watching him go from someone no-one took seriously to being desperate to be taken seriously, to being taken out for being a serious threat. It was Shakespearean (have read one Shakespeare play) in the way he got what he wanted, but not how he wanted it

I think that Survivor 47 has the unique position of being best enjoyed when paired with 46. 46 was very Gabon-like, with all the incompetent strategizing, failure to utilize idols or numerical advantages, and the sheer personal drama between the people who made it the farthest. It has a tense endgame where we don't know who will win, and the winner is a surprise because of who voted for them! 47 is the opposite of 46, with top tier strategy even in the premerge (with the notable exception of poor Teeny who would have probably done better on 46, TBH) and has little personal drama (except for Rome, another person who probably would have thrived on 46). I think the Charlie and Maria duo would have been far more terrifying when in the cast of 47! So yeah, 46 and 47 as a double feature to show the two different kinds of shows Survivor can be is a fascinating take, I think.
@HenryHickmanSurvivorКүн бұрын
That is a fascinating take, especially because every other New Era season has come in pairs (41/42, 43/44). I think you're right though, and we know 46 influenced idol plays on 47. I probably rate 46 a bit higher than 47, with more stand-out cast members and consistent fun. Although neither are my pick for best season of 2024...
@thebumpercar1344Күн бұрын
@@HenryHickmanSurvivor : I'd rate 47 higher than 46, because I enjoyed the gameplay and the story of 47 more than 46. 46 seemed to be very Big Brother-y in how the focus was on how much conflict there was between each person, and IMHO Bhanu overstayed his welcome by at least half an episode. The postmerge of 46 absolutely frustrated me and I was dreading getting another Gabler-esque winner. Thankfully Kenzie ended up being a worthy winner in my eyes, even though she wasn't the best strategist or biggest personality of the season. 47 I'd get mad at the strategy because they sniped someone I was rooting for. The only time I got mad at someone for pulling a boneheaded move strategywise in 47 was when Gen took out Sol 1/2 rounds too early, and whenever Teeny would do anything involving strategy.
@cameronsayers13758 сағат бұрын
Swapping Rome and Teeny for Charlie and Maria’s slots would be so perfect. I think 47 would be worse without the drama of Rome but 46 would be so much more full of drama with egotistical Rome and salty teeny
@thebumpercar13445 сағат бұрын
@@cameronsayers1375 : I think the more gamebotty/strategic players can come to drama if their plans all collide. Or when their messy feelings make it personal, like with Andy and Gen. But in general I just want to see whether Rome would end up being the first boot on the disasters that were 46's tribes.

Also quite poetic how Andy almost foreshadows his downfall. During his meltdown, he states that everyone was going to vote him out next, to which Jeff says, "the game's not over." In his last scene with Rachel, he considers Rachel's game to be over, taking for granted that she'll be voted out and a likely vote for him at the end, only to be voted out himself.

Fun without being too sticky is I think a good way to think of it? The word I'd go with is solid. I think I'll be happy to see a Sol clip in a highlight reel or meme like five years down the line, or something with Andy or or Genevieve or Rachel or Rome. That said it's not... exceptional. Normally there's at least one really distinct challenge moment even in the new era of repeating challenges, but all we have here is Sol getting mad at Rome in the merge challenge? I guess? Rome failing the puzzle premerge?

@@HenryHickmanSurvivor There's a weird feeling with 50 that there are so many great casting choices, arguably too many. Would Andy, Genevieve, and Rachel all be worthy additions to 50? Absolutely. If none of them were on 50, are there still going to be 20 players who feel just as deserving to have another shot and we won't miss them too much? Yes, absolutely. We're going to enter 50 with 13 newbie seasons in a row that didn't get a real returnee season, and all have worthy returnees assuming that 48 and 49 aren't total duds. Will they try to get a person a season? Will they skip any? Especially if they reach back before 35, I think 47 is a season where it might be nice to bring Andy back, but the slots are already close and that's a more acceptable loss when we can have Omar or Cody or Q.

@@aronpuma5962 Honestly, 45 or 46 should have been an All Returnee or Fans vs Favorites style season. Having so many newbie seasons in a row (almost all of which have had casts with at least 3-4 people who could be considered to return), no matter how good the S50 cast is, there's going to be a couple players that won't make it and we'll inevitably be left dissapointed.

@HenryHickmanSurvivor I've been wondering for a while, do you rally wear an eyepatch? I've unfortunally become blind in one eye a year and a half ago, since then I've been wearing one. So thanks ❤ Merry christmas and a happy newyear from the Netherlands

Well this warms my soul. Time for a long comment! When I was a kid, I had retinoblastoma, which resulted in me losing my left eye. I was a baby, so for as long as I can remember I've had a prosthetic eye. Prosthetic eyes are really good, they're hand painted to be an exact match, and they only really look like a lazy eye if you look really closely at it. About three years ago, I started doing stand-up comedy for fun, and wanted to talk about my experiences being half-blind. But because the prosthetic eye was so good, I would have audience members come up to me and tell me off for making fun of disabled people, not knowing that I was talking about my own experience. It was quite weird. So I bought an eyepatch to wear when I perform, especially when I want to tell stories about having one eye. It's part of who I am, and it's not something I'm ashamed of, so I like to incorporate it into things when I can, hence my avatar having an eyepatch, but for day to day life I usually just rock the prosthetic as to not draw attention to it when tutoring or hanging out. Also eyepatches do look sick af and it's fun to be able to wear them unironically. They're also a great aid because the number of people who sneak up on me unintentionally when I don't wear it, or do things in my blindspot without realising, is super high and can get frustrating. Anyway, Merry Christmas from literally the other side of the world! Hope it's a great one.

This season had interesting players that made it far into the game. Sam Rachel Geniveve and Andy. I just don’t like the same two people won a majority of the challenges. How “balanced”
@HenryHickmanSurvivorКүн бұрын
It's really interesting that the one player you'd expect to be really good at challenges (Sam) was just not. Survivor challenges are not really about general fitness and strength, Kyle and Rachel clearly had the finesse needed for them. I don't mind a good challenge beast, but when it feels like the challenges are all the same it makes it less interesting for the same people to win. Tom winning 5 challenges in Palau felt more varied than Rachel or Kyle (although I may be wrong there)
@EmptysfwJC15 сағат бұрын
@@HenryHickmanSurvivor I agree I love old challenge beasts but they were actually good at a lot of things. In the new era you only need to be at least capable to do the physical part and be good at puzzles. Or be good at balancing which seems to always be the first few challenges of the merge where individual immunity isn’t as important. Thank you for responding I love your channel.

I assumed it was fake because instead of playing sympathetic music to try and force us to like Andy, they played psycho villian music and seemed to give us permission to hate Andy, other castaways who have breakdowns usually get sad music.
