In Terra the phrase there are no borders is repeated in the different languages of Spain. The song conveys several messages: traditional culture and different languages are rich and serve to communicate, not to separate us. Talk about the foliada, in the past, when the field work was done, the neighbors joined to help each other, towards the end of the day, after shared work, songs, food and parties were shared, this is called foliada , I help you, you help me and we celebrate it. Above all, we are people, there are no borders.

Hi! Thanks for reacting to the full song :) I just wanted to say that Terra is very meaningful to us because 1. Its the first song ever that has competed in a Spanish selection that is in a co-official language. (In case you don't know, in Spain there are different cultures and 5 different co-official languages (Catalan/Valencian, Galician, Basque, Spanish (this would be like the "official official one"), and Aragonés (idk how this one is written in English)), and there's also Asturian which is not an "official one" but it is also spoken in some regions. And 2. Because we feel like this song is about all the different cultures in Spain coming together and accepting all of them as something rich we have as a nation and that we need to embrace. In fact, this song features the phrase "There are no borders" in Galician, Basque, Catalan/Valencian, Asturian and Spanish, which are almost every languages spoken here :)

This song is VERY important because represents one of the cultures that Spain have.... We´re not only sun, beach and flamenco... Our country is SO diverse! All the north Spain have a Celtic heritage and its the first time that Spain show it in a international song contest like Eurovision. The language song is galician, sister tongue of portuguese. Galician culture have a lot of celtic mytholocical tales and of course they have witches, in galician "meigas". This song inspires me a dance around the fire with other women, singing a trance, with repetitions and percusion .... How the Basques (other north culture) says: living a "akelarre".

This is very beautiful song that talks about preservance, identity, acceptance and existence of minority languages in Spain. It shows how multicultural Spain is and how the fact that they are minority does not make them any less valuable. Moreoever, it makes Spain even richer in terms of culture. The song is executed very well and perfectly fits Eurovision as it talks about some current issues in the world.
@alejandropinon37003 жыл бұрын
That's kind of not true. I mean yes, the video is symbolic but in any way the tambourine represents Spain and the extensions the minority languages in Spain, that in fact would totally against the message of the song which wants to give the same value to the all the official languages in Spain, that are now consider somehow low-class and totally deprotected by the Spanish State (in fact depending of where you ask in Spain you will find people who can't not tell how many official languages Spain has or if they are even languages). Tambourine, together with the bagpipes, has always been the traditional instrument of Galicia, and Tanxugueiras is in fact a "pandereteiras" group, a traditional women group who play tambourine. And that link is so strong that the tambourine can't, in any way, represent Spain in that metaphor. Since the song is called "Terra" (land, soil, earth) they want to make a metaphor of which they link the traditional instrument with their land. They have always defined theirselves as root music style. But at the same way, they are not close to the others, that's why the message of the song is there is no borders, that means actually two things: 1) you can get global with what it's consider a regional/minority language, there is no borders regarding to where you can get with a song written in a minority language. This is basicly breaking the roofglass for Galician music, since many people, both Galicians (influenced by some self-hate) and Spanish consider it is a thing to llisten to in a Galician village but not outside of it. 2) you don't have to be isolated to protect your culture, since they use all the languages of Spain in a song in order to celebrate diversity and embrace differences rather than building walls over them.

The message they want to convey is the importance of the co-official languages as different dialects that exist in Spain. That because of their minority of speakers they are sometimes given a lower position than their sister Spanish. I think with the lyrics of the song and the instrumentalization she can be a very good candidate to compete in Eurovision. The potential of this topic is incredible.

There is a big problem with the cultural projection of Spain internationally. They forced foreigners to think about Spain as flamenco and bullfighting. But the fact is that these two cultural aspects only exist...in Andalucía! Just one state. The rest of our country has nothing to do with that. Imagine that everyone thinks that the whole culture of USA is country music and rodeo. Spain has many official languages, types of music and culture. You can find trails of celtic, roman and iberian culture in the different states in music, architecture, sculptures, etc. Celtic, iberian and roman cultures are the base of Spanish culture more than anything else that came a lot later. I'm from Canary Islands and our typical music sounds like Renaissance medieval music. My boyfriend is from Extremadura and the music there is kind of celtic, there are tons of cities made by the romans, roman gods sculptures and ruins everywhere. The roman circus in Merida is still in use for athletics races, the roman teather in Merida still represents classical ancient Greek plays too. In the center of Madrid, the most famous fountain represents a roman goddess of water, Cibeles. I was raised as a catholic and, at the same time, I learned about the greek and roman mithology at school and with a book one of my aunts gave to me. Ancient Greece and Rome influence are so familiar to me because it's everywhere here. Canary Islands appear in Greek myths too, as the Hesperides, the sacred garden of the gods in which golden apples grow, also know as the lost Atlantis.

The only words heard in Spanish are the last three. If there is a way to explain what Spain is, it is this; there are many mixtures of languages in its interior, and especially in the north. It is a message about the Spain that most of the foreigners often do not see. Not everything is flamenco. I think I very much agree with all the video reactions I've seen. We (Spain) should stop resorting to the typical ballad or what we think everyone will """like""" equally. It is not only a profound message for us, it is also for the rest of the participants of the Eurovision Song Contest, a claim to exchange our most enriching cultural values among us, rather than looking for the most salable and popular song. "Non hai fronteiras" -> Galician "Ez dago mugarik" -> Basque "No hi ha fronteres" -> Catalan "Nun hai fronteres" -> Asturian

This song mostly speaks in Gallego, but also says sentences in Catalan, Euskera and Spanish (some languages from Spain).
