You should check with your insurance company because ins Co in france require the shutters to be shut when you leave for any length of time. If you don't and your house gets broken into they will not cover it. So if your shutters are not there you could run into a problem. But check to make sure this is still the case or is the case in your area.

@@OurFrenchChateauou outside shutters prevent the windows to be too cold in winter and too hot in summer. It's a tradition insulation. It can be reinforced by inside shutters or thick curtains. Some old building like our prefecture from the XVIII seams they don't have shutters, they are in fact sliding one, they slide inside the walls on each side. It was build like that. Shutters are important for the safety, better check with your insurance company.

The shutters will warp if you put them in an out building leaning up against a wall. This will ruin them. Plus they are there to protect the exterior of the windows from winter wind and weather. And also a security feature.

The shutters are very beautiful and all intact. Grateful you kept them all. Make sure they are stored properly and treated to avoid wood worm in the future. love it! You have a great style. Love the black beds too:). I'm noticing that the Armoire leans out a bit from the wall. The easy fix for that is to put shims under the front feet of the Armoire and it will make it lean towards the wall. That will make it a bit more stable as well.

The façade with the shutters is more elegant, dear Amanda. We are just viewers, this is not our home, but you should really reconsider your decision. They gave balance and rythme to the walls and the windows. They brought life, especially to a north façade, which is always more austere because of the absence of sunlight. It now looks a bit sad and naked, and I am surprised by your decision, since you usually have a very good taste in what you do. Moreover, they protect from the cold.

Why didn't you match the width of the panels in the dado? What you are doing it now has no relationship between the panels above and below the chair rail. If it had been real boiserie there would be a relationship because the panels would have been built elsewhere and installed in sections. The sections divided floor to ceiling. The extra strip makes a very thick molding, even deeper than the existing ones, at least from a quick glimpse.
@robertstaas93142 жыл бұрын
I agree, the false panels have no relationship to the existing dado design. This could have been done with wallpaper which would be a traditional solution to any chateau of this period.
