TRIANGLE TAIL LIGHTS. Use that triangle space for tail lights. Make a bezel to fit the space and cut some plastic to fit it.

From the rear, the 1969 Bat-mobile feel is coming out, does this mean a black with red highlights paint job? This project is showing a huge improvement since the Bug-MR2 days! You will need a special place in the body for your logo and signature! Be sure to put your signature in weld, as it is hard to paint over.

Hey Preston. I have a non professional tip for a non professional (that's you). Whenever you're welding sheet metal panels, do as much welding from the backside as possible. That way you don't need to spend so much time grinding and finishing. Thats providing the backside cannot be seen. I started doing this years ago and it saves so much time.
@GARAGEIdiotS3 күн бұрын
I did on a few areas but not as much as I should have, thanks for the tip! I’ll remember that for next time!

Truck looks amazing and do know you need all the time to finish loose ends on it but please dont just use LED lighting and plexi glass for rear lights! The truck is a classic rat rod and if you could implement rear taillights for late 50s fin style (like ones on caddy or whatever) that would look so much awesome... Regarding front headlights, it is mainly two options, classic cone buckets with either being placed one on each fender like Peterbilt trucks or you could have them by the grill like the original look, all above can be found by nearest junkyard to you, with little wire wheeling, you already have 2 items scrapped off your list! Btw glass isnt a problem and can be done by yourself if you went with a plexiglass sheet and made templates for your side windows and would just work as fine with track and all (if you are super tight on time for actual glass being cut if roof is chopped) Great work brother!

I'm looking at Harley replacement headlight buckets for my Model T. May I suggest that you can too. Tail lights: same, same. The original Model T tail lights look an awful lot like Harley"s 1 1/2 inch, round flat, tail pucks.
@Enter-a-name553 күн бұрын
The only issue with using a motorcycle headlight bucket is the mounts. Most bike headlights have two mounting spots on the side which are flattened for the brackets. They also have a large hole in the back for wiring. I just think you would have too much time involved in cleaning up a bike headlight bucket to mount on a car. What I have used in the past,,, stainless steel mixing bowls. They come in lots of different sizes, you can find them at any dollar store, they are cheap, and they only have a little flat spot on the very bottom. That's the nice thing about building custom vehicles,, there are no rules for what you can use. Use whatever you like as long as the end result is what you were after.
@Peter-jo3wt3 күн бұрын
@Enter-a-name55 When you're fabricating vertually everything, on a vertually new rat rod, having brand new operating light buckets running 12V high & low beams, purchased as a unit right outta the box, is a gift. Mounting them is entirely up to the fabricobbler.

Maybe I'm missing something, but why couldn't you lift thee bed straight up to take it off instead of sliding it back. I liked the look of the square parts you cut off. If you're going to add something back in its place, how about an angled piece that matches the back of the truck. I think it would give more strength to that part of the bed

For the most part I am digging what your doing here, but those stake pockets are what make those beds look so good. You could just take the wheels off if the bed is coming off. Didn't need to remove one of the coolest features of those beds for a mechanical scenario that will almost never happen anyway.
