Think about this if it's batting average goes down about 50 points this year you're still talking about 285 for a guy that can play three positions in the infield quite well. He makes good contact he can lay down a bunt he can hit the ball to the right side he creates a good energy for a lot of young guys to learn from. And the most important thing there's always injuries.

Stearns is still unfortunately rebuilding the team. He was pleasantly surprised that they won as much as they did. But i don't think he feels this team will win in 2025, so he is keeping his prospects and signing low price free agents. Its a shame. If he focused on winning this coming year, the moment Alonso started his shenanigans, he would've pushed to trade for Guerrero Jr. Instead of wasting spots on Montas (4.84 ERA) and Channing, another pitcher with a high ERA, he would've pushed to sign Burnes or Snell, and if he failed, he would've sign Flaherty and Quintana or trade for Castillo, Cease or King. They just signed infielder Madrigal. Another waste. Instead of signing Iglesias, he wants to give Baty and Mauricio another shot. Iglesias batted .337 and came in the clutch. He's also a lifetime .280 hitter capable of playing 2nd, SS, and 3rd. He is more likely to outperform McNeil, Baty (who will probably hit .240) and Mauricio (who may start the season injured). He views Acuna, Williams, Gilbert, Clifford, Sproat, and Tidwell as the future of this team and considers signing Vlad Guerrero Jr on a 10 year deal after the season as more impactful than trading for him now. He's trying to dump McNeil and Marte, who may still positively contribute to this team this year. Again, Stearns does not seem too interested in winning this year, he wants to use this year for the development of his initial vision. That's why Holmes, who can dominate as the 8th inning guy is being given the chance to start. He seems to have the burden of the 2025 season in front of him as he prepares for the next. Otherwise, his next moves should be to sign Iglesias, Get either Alonso or Guerrero Jr at 1st base to protect Soto in the lineup and get a top of the rotation starter and maybe still sign either Quintana or Flaherty, if they can afford it. Soto is supposed to add to the lineup, not replace Alonso. They are supposed to go all the way this year, something Stearns is showing he doesn't have the confidence in them to do. Acuna, Williams and Sproat should not be traded, but Mauricio, Baty, Gilbert, Clifford, and Tidwell should be on the table to acquire either Vlad or one of the starters aforementioned.

Agreed and I am of the opinion they should try all out to win every year if there is a realistic chance at making the post season (and after last year and signing Soto this is the reality). They should be doing everything to win this year even if it hinders the future a tiny bit.

They need to take as many shots as possible at getting to the post season and then being one of the final 4 teams left. At that point every team may be dealing with injuries and it is whoever can overcome it and stay hot at the end.

Idk why everyone has these crazy line ups lol why not Lindor, Nimmo, Soto, Petey, then Vientos. I think you're 2 best options to get on base are lindor and Nimmo, who set up Soto and Alonso to drive in runs. Idk, but this line up to me would drivr me nuts as a pitcher

What’s the point of even having a farm if we are not going give our kids a chance to sprout and bloom and show us what they can do🤷🏾♂️. Every single star ⭐️in the MLB today was once an unknown or unproven prospect hungry for an opportunity. From Willie Mays to now. Some of them weren’t even that highly touted like the now great Mookie Betts,or Mike Piazza. Stearns has the right mindset albeit not always the most popular. I love ❤️ it. LGM 💙🧡👍🏾.
