The stilt walking shepherds are from the Landes region of France. In 18th and 19th century only the shepherds and their flocks inhabited the marches but before the tradition of sheep tending on stilts died out shepherds began coming into villages to socialise and stiltwalking spread, particularly in social settings where there was dancing. To this day, in Landes, there is stilt dancing!

Scot you were just saying, No one goes back to the beginning......I did. After I had discovered your channel, when you were first talking about Hillcroft and the drama, I went back to episode one and watched them in order. It was good by the way when they were numbered. Not listened to Podcast 3 yet but the first two were very good. Excellent series, and I look forward to watching the next chapter of your lives. Thanks. Jo in France 🇫🇷

I was away from home due to my mother passing but I’ve slowly been watching all the videos I missed and think you are both a great team, couple, funny as h, and I binged watched from beginning when I fist found you. The baby lamb is adorable and Shawna is a sweet name. Hope I spelled that correctly. I’m sorry you’ve had such a hassle getting the camera. I’d been PO’d too. You did a good job on the fence considering what you have to deal with. Your sheep are so good and Bree is quisical about the steamers but hopefully they both get used to it. Enjoy your channel very much. Take care. ❤❤

FYI: I DID go back and watch from the beginning, Love the Monty Python references. I have never EVER seen two people work harder than you two. I visited Scotland in 2015. We even were in Fort William. SUCH a beautiful country! I love it so much. One teensy suggestion, when you order something expensive, why not have it delivered to Katie's mum, rather than get it lost or mis delivered time and time again? I know she is far away, but probably at a more standard address and easier for the post to handle. I admire you both so much and Katie's voice and accent are so soothing. I've started calling broken things "gupt" here in NJ. I'll probably start getting some pretty strange looks! Love The Scottish Isle. The place and it's people!

Shauna little lamb, welcome to the clan. Loved how you let the old ladies warm up to little Shauna. There is something I am a little confused about I think you have bought your cottage but you keep on saying the owner does not want people to know where you are exactly, to which I can understand and agree, but do I understand correctly that you have bought the cottage and some acreage of land or are you care takers of the land for the owner? What ever you decide to do with the videos you must do what is good for you. Some of us can not do Patreon and watch you Tube (which I am one of them) I do not have instagram. I appreciate all the work you do into making these lovely videos which I enjoy immensely and look forward too. Another lovely video Katie.

I wonder if the analytics take into account the time of year on various continents… my utube viewing time drops during spring and summer as outdoor chores and adventures take my time. You have a lovely channel and honestly it seems the oddest things cause a channel to ‘blow up.’ I watched the hoof gp for years barely able to understand his Scot’s accented English and I’ve never owned a dairy cow in my life. In the end I think so much is the personality of the person(s) putting their story out there, the story itself PLUS time. As in exposure and as in maybe longer journal videos in the winter months v shorter (more frequent?) during summer months where you are kept in our minds with updates etc. For me, consistency helps- my go-to channels publish on a regular schedule. Just some thoughts on the subject, as a viewer.

I have a can of WD40 as well. It's particularly useful on my door hinges. Squeaks drive me mad...not that that's a long trip! Between 1890 and 1920 the border lands of Wyoming and Colorado saw numerous conflicts between sheep ranchers and cattle ranchers competing for grazing and water. It was a bloody and contentious conflict that saw as many as 100,000 sheep killed by hired gunmen working for cattle ranchers. In the U.K. it might take a single acre to raise one cow. In Wyoming it takes about five acres. Cattle ranchers at that time were not willing to share the land.

Love hearing the history katie of Scotland, my grandfather was from Galway & unfortunately passed whe my mum was a child ( so history of the region was lost for many generations from him). With the loofa bush if you can get a piece of cattle panel & bend it into an arch, the loofa will love it & also will make harvesting a hell of alot easier. Also a word to the wise after harvesting you'll end up with more plants than you bargained for at next growing season lol ( speaking from experience). The new arrival is just too precious. Beautiful video again guys & thank you for sharing your part of the world & journey with us all.

What a sweetie Shauna is - she'll be acclimated in no time because, you're right, she's landed in sheep Heaven. And, Katie, your window boxes look wonderful. I couldn't see on the screen - is there a board at the back, touching the house? If not, you might want to line the boxes with a good stiff plastic, so the soil doesn't rot the siding. I am one of those people that goes back to the beginning. When I first found you, I started at the beginning. I anxiously wait for your 2 videos each week. Yes, I would love more but I don’t want you two to get burned out with filming. It sounds silly but I really cannot afford the patreon as I have another hobby of sewing garments and that’s where my money goes. I do however try to send a kofi now and then. Shona is so cute and I would love to hold her. I was wondering why does Scotland have so many ticks. I live in the desert, there are ticks but we never see them. Oh, one more thing, will we get to see the sheep getting sheared? I tried my hand at that in a farm in the Cairngorm. So much fun.
