With 44 days to go, it's worth questioning whether the UK and EU will ever reach a deal? Johnson seems optimistic, insisting that they're making good progress. The EU says they see no such progress and that they're prepared for a no-deal Brexit. In this video, we discuss how negotiations are going and why they've been struggling to come to an agreement.

To me, it's Season 1 - pre-Brexit until Referendum, with Camerons resigning as season finale and cliffhanger for the next season Season 2 - May got into power, and up to the new general election, with the season finale the GE itself. The cliffhanger is obviously that May lost her majority instead of gaining seats Season 3 - Up until May got thrown out, with the cliffhanger for the next season being exactly that Season 4 - Since Johnson is in power. Might be a short season, though, producers propably decide at the end of October if they prolong the series, make a spin-off and if they do a re-cast.

And in typical TV fashion, they had planned a good season 1 and then it went downhill from there. Like, how realistic is it that the house of commons ACTUALLY believes that the PM could break the law to push his agenda? Not as a political statement, but they are for real thinking he might. Come on, I'm not watching "London has fallen" here. I started this for the thrill of real life politics! But it's just getting riddiculous... And now they killed of my favourite character, I don't think I'll be watching much longer...

31st of January, 2344. The British Iles local Governmental body asks the unified Alliance of Human nations for the traditional one-year extension to the brexit deadline, which will be granted, as is custom. Noone is really sure anymore what that means exactly or how this tradition started but it seems important considering how many times their ancestors did it.

Well it might be a problem for some industries that have integrated British factories in their supply chains, such as the German automotive industry. If these companies take a hit and for example default on their bank loans, it could trigger a chain reaction in the European money market, which currently is under huge pressure because of Italy. It's not very likely but it is a possibility. Now that could be stopped if the German government intervened so there's that.

By your own admission you say you would be impacted more than others and that still doesn't bother you? The U.K. is the Netherlands 3rd biggest buyer ($47b, that's 10% of your country's exports and 6% of the Netherlands GDP). Saying you don't care about your fellow countryman's employ-ability/job stability is pretty shocking really. I hope a deal is reached for everyone's sake. It'll take a long time for the 'large' companies you say to make up that 6% gdp. What are those companies out of interest?

Deal or No deal we in the UK want an end to it, its the politicians who don't want to leave who are creating the problem, most I talk to in the UK say lets leave the EU, let Germany and France bankroll the other EU members between themselves Britain has paid enough into it without getting much in return, the only thing being in the EU does is help the poorer nations at the expense of the richer ones like Britain, its become a wasteful, useless monster, i'm not sure if a no-deal is any worse than the deal May agreed to, but from what I hear a no-deal is a better option than the deal may accepted, so I'm hoping that we come out on the 31st with a no-deal, and leave Germany and Framce and the other richer nations to continue to bankroll, and if I was form Holland i'd be happy like yourself with my lot, its a win/win for your country either way, staying in the EU taking more out than you put in, taking business from this fiasco, congrats

All the time the EU leaders are like: Give us your proposal how to protect the single market and honor the good friday agreement, and we'll gladly revisit the backstop. It was gonna be temporary anyway, so if you can solve it now, you're very welcome. But you can't solve it by saying "I can solve it." That's not how this works; that's not how any of this works.

The upcoming economic downswing gains momentum, the British press go even more bonkers, blames the economic trouble on everybody but BJ - because he, the hero and martyr, had tried to do the right thing but was stabbed in the back and sentenced to community service. Why would people who want to leave the EU delay us leaving the EU? That's just stupid. May's "deal" is Brexit-in-name-only and everybody knows it. For Remoaners, it's the first step out of the EU and therefore unacceptable, and for Brexiteers it's the first step into becoming a vassal state and therefore unacceptable. No deal can prove satisfactory to everyone, nor should it. The only deal that needs to work is one that works for those who voted to Leave the EU. Remoaners don't have to be pleased or placated about it, they just have to suck it up or--unironically--leave.

Well... it's not quite as easy, I'm afraid. It's good international practice that treaties need to be ratified. I don't know where you are from, but if it's a EU country then you have a ratification process in your country, too. And it most certainly involves the parliament needing to agree to the deal. That's what we call democracy: The elected representatives need to sign off on any deal made by the diplomats. And if a deal is not signed off at home, you need to get back to the negotiations. That is what happend with a lot of EU deals actually (CETA for example stuggled with this quite a lot). HOWEVER, it is kinda incumbent on the diplomats of the country saying "no" to then give indications on how to move forward. You can't just go "My parliament said no, so give me something different." That's not how negotiations work. You need to tell people what it is you think you need for the deal to be approved and you need to negotiate what you are giving up for it. Or maybe you can even propose a solution that's better for both sides AND will be agreed to by your parliament? That would be optimal. But whichever way you look at it, it's not the job of all the countries agreeing to a deal to guess what your parliament needs... And THAT is why your conclusion (that it's not the EU's problem) is correct, even if your route is a bit flawed.
@ChristianIce
@ChristianIce 4 жыл бұрын
@@QemeH Well, it is easier than you think, if you do it right. Barnier was in constant contact with EU members, getting feedback on their ideas and wishes, *BEFORE* finishing the final deal. That's why EU members accepted it, because they knew already what was in it, and they already agreed to the content. Now, if Theresa May forgot to ask the HoC what was good for them, seeking a large majority on the final text before signing it, it would have passed. That's a route which is not flawed ;)

But you say anything like that, youre insulted, degraded and then told how evil the EU is, how well we are doing and how much better we will be even with no deal. It really does seem to be some kind of utopian idea and any questions are seen as heresy. Where as me, I'm watching it happen from the same land and feeling rather disappointed at everyone here involved in it. And I thought Boris was a quirky but funny guy, now I cant think anything but what you said, toddler who is bullishly pushing his own agenda through for whatever personal reasons he has. Whether you support that pressure or not, its a hell of a controversial move and with a huge potential to massively backfire and fuck a lot of people over for a long time. As Tilbrook (Solicitor ) And Cash (Senior Cons MP) have stated, we left the EU March 31st. However, the courts delayed the response to this case to point the solicitors only had 3 days left in which to get final docs to the court and, as for the media, not a peep was heard. No surprise there. It's amazing how quickly the courts reacted to the trumped up nonsense about Bojo breaking the law. Again, no surprise on the super fast response of the courts on this.

That said, one symbol you have used quite a bit is strange to me: If that mitt that you use to illustrate "the backstop" is supposed to be a baseball mitt, then the term "backstop" is a misnomer. The only "stop" on a baseball team is the "SHORTstop" - who is indeed a kind of backstop behind the pitcher, but is not called that. :-)

A huge percentage of the public think this phase of Brexit - deal or no deal - is the end of the matter. They have no idea that it is merely the start of protracted trade and alignment negotiations on future trade relationships with the EU. If we leave with no deal, the UK will be back - the next day - to start hustling for a deal on our future trade status with the EU. That will be a nasty surprise to TV watchers who do not understand that this entire purgatorial experience has been about a withdrawal deal.

For instance what messages the EU leaders wants to send behind their decisions regarding brexit and especially why ? Are there any relations that can be made with other matters that the EU is dealing with in other parts of the European Union ? So many questions and maybe more that I'm sure will allow us to understand what's really happening between the UK and EU leaders.
