About Metroid Prime 2 & 3: There was a rumor that Retro was working on a new IP while Bandai Namco was developing Prime 4. This new IP was then canceled and Retro was tasked with remastering the original Prime trilogy... but only Prime 1 was finished in time for Prime 4 to be rebooted and handed over to Retro. This means that Prime 2 and 3 have either been canceled, are in limbo, or may have been given to other developers.

I'm skeptical that we'll see remasters... but I am confident that we'll see HD ports with the same control updates at the very least. I acknowledge though, that Prime 3 will be much harder to port with the control updates than Prime 2.

Sight correction: it wasn't that Metroid Prime 1 was finished in time for Prime 4 to be rebooted, it's that the original plan was reduced to only doing MP1 so MP4 had enough resources. The timeline is roughly that they were working on the new IP from 2014-2018, then pushed back into working on the Prime series in early 2018 via the remasters and support work on MP4, before being put in charge of MP4 wholesale by January 2019. The rumor was recently collaborated by Kiwi Talkz, who is known for their Retro Studios interviews (who also confirmed an even earlier rumor that the new IP was a singing-based RPG).

If this rumour is true, it is so sad. There could be huge blow up for metroid series in Switch. Metroid Prime trilogy remasters, Metroid Prime 4, Metroid Dread, all of these NSO metroid games. Not sure what Nintendo was thinking by giving Metroid Prime to bandai namco. They are great devs but metroid series is not gundam. It would be great if they could somehow hire Respawn/EA for Metroid Prime 4. I think they are the only 3rd party studio who can deliver fps metroidvania game.

Regarding the Punch-Out story, Time Extension talked to a number of NLG employees and they did not agree with the original "source" story about the stereotypes, they said that it came down to ideas. And for Engage, the game itself was not delayed, since 3 Houses was delayed and covid, their schedules shifted. It was suppose to be 2018 3H, 2020-2021 Engage (near the anniversary), 2022 3 Hopes.

I would love it if F Zero GX was at this supposed upcoming Direct. However, I don’t think it financially makes sense for Nintendo to “save it” for Switch 2. With the dry spell we’ve had for a year, I think it would be a nice yet strong way to close things out. Saving it for Switch 2 would realistically yield poor sales.

Turning Dragalia Lost into a full game rather than a mobile service game would be an interesting choice, though I wonder if CyGames would spend time on it rather than their own games... though I should note one thing, just in case you didn't know- Tantalus games were apparently involved in the port of Guilty Gear Strive for Switch that released on January 23. So that's at least one team that's been kept busy and probably won't have anything left in their chamber to be revealed on this hypothetical direct.

Saw Golden Sun in the title and immediately got excited. Just got back into the games recently and it would be a PERFECT game to release now. It’s not that graphically or technically demanding for switch 1 and a switch 2 version would probably be released later anyways. Fans have been asking for so long to remake the first two, port/remaster the third game, or finally make the 4th game. Considering how quiet Camelot has been recently, I agree that it is very likely they’ll show something off.

Tantalus was just revealed as the developer behind the Switch port of Guilty Gear Strive a few days ago. This wasn't known when video was made, but it does impact some of the points about Zelda and Yoshi remakes. I think it might rule out any Phantom Hourglass or Spirit Tracks port this year, which seemed possible after four years since Skyward Sword HD and last year's first DS/3DS port for them in Luigi's Mansion 2. Though this does increase the chance of smaller scale work instead, like another take on the Wind Waker or Twilight Princess ports, or perhaps something like the Wooly World port mentioned in video.

Would be interesting to see the credits - as I recall, the LM2 and the Zelda SS port devs were clearly distinct teams at Tantalus.

@nintendoforecast If multiple distinct teams, that would factor into what is possible. But given Tantalus averages just one release a year; having a second game would likely make it a title of smaller effort. And if it happens, I wouldn't expect it until second half of the year, putting February Direct coverage less likely than summer or fall. If anyone was thinking Zelda remasters in a February Direct were 70% or 90% before the Guilty Gear Strive revelation, I don't think we can treat it as more than 50% now. And if we're looking at a Zelda title very late in year (October or later), why not just stick it in the back pocket until early 2026 to help bolster the series' 40th anniversary? Two remasters and a new/remake title in one calendar year seems exactly the thing Nintendo would do. They just did it for Pikmin a couple of years back. They may be doing it to Metroid this year.

As someone who participated in the NSO Playtest and did get some good enjoyment out of it, I don't expect to see it resurface until late this year, and I expect it to be cross-gen. Not only does it appear to have some live-service trappings, they were asking for some comprehensive feedback, and it'll take time for things to be adjusted based on what they were told (I had a *ton* to say). Additionally, performance was lackluster on Switch. The resolution was frequently low, frame drops happened a lot in the hub, and the game seemed to have great difficulty streaming in assets outside of your "chunk." While the full release is bound to be better optimized, I still suspect that it's a game targeting Switch 2 first and foremost, and the earliest I expect to see it is in the Switch 2 Direct. I did appreciate seeing you consider Cygames having something in this video. And I think if Arika has anything for us, it'll be Dr. Mario, since Switch is still the only Nintendo system to not get a new one whatsoever (except for the Virtual Boy and maybe the DS?). But they seem to be busy with Tetris The Grand Master 4, Tekken 8 development support, and their recent deal with SNK, and they're one of Nintendo's smallest partners to boot.

18:00 Don't do that, don't give me hope. 18:10 As a massive Dragalia fan, and someone studding game dev, I would say there aren't really that many assets from the game that could be reused for a console game imo. All of Dragalia's assets were made with a moblie scale in mind and a very lite moblie scale at that, they're all very "lo-fi", nothing along the lines of something like Genshin or that you would put on a console. Any charater or enemy models would have to be done from the ground up (although a few bosses might be able to have some of their models salvaged?) and they might be able to reuse some animations or rigs but that is still a might since the redone models would likely need alterations to the rig and animations to accommodate the higher detail. I don't own, but have played the demo of the new Granblue game and I'd imagine that would be a far better basis for a draglia remake, with stuff from that being more suited for asset reuse and just game design. I'd still love to see more Dragalia in the future and I could see it happening but imo the more likely senario is a port of the Granblue game (probably switch 2 exclusive) and then maybe a Dragalia remake if Cygames/Nintendo want to take a "risk" on the IP again since Granblue is a lot more golden a goose.

The large install base of the Switch may sound enticing for a late generation Fire Emblem or Golden Sun game. But those titles might honestly benefit more from being a high profile early Switch 2 game. Similar to how Xenoblade 2 became the best selling game in the series because it released in 2017. Also this might be a good time to drop Samus Returns HD, if they decide to position Prime 4 as a Switch 2 launch title instead. It builds up the profile for the Metroid brand while not overwhelming consumers with too much Prime.

In the case of Fire Emblem, the supposed game we could be getting is a remake of Genealogy. And FE would likely be better served by having its first Switch 2 game be a brand new entry rather than a remake of an old one.

Pretty sure re: Golden Sun if it happens, it'll be a HD 2D Top Down remake of the first two Golden Sun games strung together into one game, which is a project of low enough scope that Switch 1 would handle it fine. The goal would be to reintroduce the series to modern audiences. The first two Golden Sun games were meant to be one big game anyway and would fit together well medley'd into one game. Then they can proceed to make a new game, Golden Sun 3 (shhhhh) on new hardware (and pretend Golden Sun Dark Dawn, the original 3, never happened).

The first one had an unbelievable impact on me in my youth, and only finally played the second one when it came to Switch with the Genesis Collection. 3 is my white whale, I did play The Holy Ark though! Also I have been predicting a Shining Force revival since Fire Emblem Awakening revived that franchise. It just makes too much sense

It's very suspicious that Cygames is Nintendo's partner for the Switch 2; and when I think Nintendo and Cygames, Dragalia Lost pops in my mind. A lot of people, myself included, loved that series, and hated how both those companies basically ignored it throughout it's time. If, and that's a big if, they make a port or a sequel to DL, I'll forgive them. The very least is offer us maybe some GrandBlue stuff, too.

I do think Intelligent Systems have a Color Splash port planned, however it'd probably be one of the last if not the last first party Switch 1 game, people like it a lot more now but outside the Bowsers Inside remake its by far the worst selling Mario game. Also they're probably reevaluating the series in general at this point, what with TTYD doing well and people starting to very vocally ask for a Super Paper Mario remake (context behind that being that SPM is literally the antithesis of safe but bland Mario, after all what other game has Mario fighting in the biblical battle of Armageddon).

Shining Force 3 remake would be great. Just clean up the early 3D graphics a bit, add optional minimaps to the towns (Anafect and Treetop are a bit of a pain to navigate), and make it more obvious what's worth searching. The battles are perfect the way they are, being somewhat more challenging than the first two games and rewarding careful play with friendship bonuses, tomb loot, and extra characters.

I agree although if they did want to develop it a bit, I feel like there was a missed opportunity to do more with Destonia (we see the port but never the town and there are characters like Steel who feel like they were introduced surely with the intent of being future bosses). I also always wanted a post-game where you could explore the whole world Shining Force II style since it was clearly interconnected although I doubt they'd ever do that as it would probably require creating new dialogue for hundreds of characters.

Okay I can't wait for what we could see for the Switch 1 Direct and I hope it's a big one. 14:18 Okay, we know Nate The Hate was right about the Switch 2 happening on Thursday two weeks ago, but I don't know about his rumor for a HD remake of Kirby Planet Robobot, which is also supposed to happen this year. However, I'm not sure if it's actually going to happen, and I'm not going to buy it unless they can add Kirby Triple Deluxe with Kirby Planet Robobot and make it a two-pack collection. Then, we would have all the modern Kirby games on one console, which would make me happy. Hopefully they do that for the Switch 1 Direct this year next month in February. I don't know why they would make an HD remake of one 3DS game and just leave the other one behind on the 3DS? That doesn't make any sense? Also, I still need to beat Kirby's Return to Dreamland Deluxe 100% before we move on to the next Kirby game for the Switch 2. For Susie, they could do a side mode, an epilogue, or a prologue, and they could add her moveset from Star Allies. Maybe she could use the Robobot Armor. And I think it would be about Susie trying to find Kirby's Robobot Armor, and she actually uses it. Then she brings it back to Kirby after the events with Star Dream. That would be cool. And I do hope we get to see a remake or a sequel for Tomodachi Life come to Nintendo Switch and adding the Miitopia Mii Maker in it so then we would have both Miitopia and Tomodachi Life on Switch now that would be cool for the February Switch 1 Direct. But yeah I can't wait to see what new games we could see for the February Switch 1 Direct this year next month in February. And I hope we do get a Nintendo Direct this month like on Wednesday would be fine before we move on to the Switch 2 Direct. And what would I want to see the most in this Switch 1 Direct is a two-pack collection of both Kirby Triple Deluxe and Kirby Planet Robobot and a sequel or a remake of Tomodachi Life with adding the Miitopia Mii Maker Editor.

If we finally get a FE remake, it really should be a double pack of path of radiance/radiant dawn. Its insane how pricy the former is these days. I do expect Awakening remaster sometime in Switch 2's life though just because of how important that game is to the franchise

It's very difficult to get (leaving aside emulation). You need a Saturn that can play Japanese games and then the three games because it's actually a three-part game (plus a premium disc with a boss rush mode and other features that Camelot sent out to people who bought all three). Then there's an absolute amazing fan translation project so you need to patch it. It is an incredible game though and I think it would still feel completely modern in terms of its narrative and core gameplay style if released today (not necessarily the graphics or elements of the controls). If you enjoyed SF2 on NSO, SF3 is that with a story vastly more elaborate and interesting and with a far vaster scale. A lot of the stuff Three Houses got credit for in 2019 SF3 was doing in 1997. And there are things they do with tactical battle systems that I've still not seen matched. It's crazy to think how ambitious Camelot was back then.

@nintendoforecast It's such a shame the Saturn's library is so inaccessible and most of the better titles have never been officially translated. I don't think we'll ever get a Saturn NSO but I think there's a real chance the Genesis/Megadrive one gets expanded to include Sega CD and 32X games so I wouldn't completely write off getting Shining Force CD, at least.

Nah. There won't be a direct. At this point there is no new game to announce for Switch. It will be mostly very few remasters or very small games. They can just drop trailers for those if they have any. For Metroid Prime 4, Nintendo see that game something like Bayonetta. Don't expect improved Switch 2 version or Botw treatment. They will drop trailers at youtube channel, released the game before Switch 2 comes. Game will sell 1.1 million in life time. It will get 88 metacritic score. People will be disappointed and we will move with our life.

Yeah, I would really enjoy this channel when compared to all the other Nintendo content-farms, but please the whole "%X Chance" is really annoying. Unless what your saying is backed and built on actual numerical data, you're just making up stuff, going on vibes, or using stats from a data pool that is so limited to not even mean anything. The most troublesome part it that there's no real reason to do this! Just say you think it's likely or unlikely and give a reason or two.

I think you put the chance of Warriors way to low here. FIre Emblem Warriors ran on the Wii U and New 3DS despite the switch looming. It clearly taxed both those systems but KT are not actually looking to push graphics, they do understand how to make games work within limits, these are not the most expensive games ever. I do think most games are coming to Switch 1 anyway, I don't think switch 2 will be loaded with exclusives but more than most series I think Warriors has very little reason and historically has not been first out the gate to switch to new hardwear. KT decided to give support to Pirate Warriors 4 3 years after the last DLC for Pirate warriors 4 dropped. If they think it will make more money to use a bigger install base they will do that.

A Direct in February would be only Switch one content. A new Fire Emblem would be more likely to get a exclusive Switch 2 release. Also I would think (guess), that it would more likely about "small" releases. Metroid Prime 2 & 3 port or a Metroid Prime 2 Remaster, but not a mainline Mario, Zelda, Splatoon or Fire Emblem game, maybe spin-offs of those series. If in the Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition no big new features, it would be only a reminder in the February Direct. We will see big hitter in April on the Switch 2 Direct. The new game from Platinum Games will be Ninja Gaiden 4 and could announced for the Switch 2 in April as well. I don't think we will see exclusives Nintendo games from PG so fast, they lost a couple of creative stuff, not only Hideki Kamiya. Ninja Gaiden 4 looks great and I have faith in the today PG and there stuff, but I don't see that they have enough man power to produce two big games at the same time. Maybe a Astral Chain spin-off as Rogue-Lite? 🤷

The "new" Fire Emblem that has been heavily rumored forever is a remake of Fire Emblem 4 on the SNES and would not be a particularly high difficulty title to remake, which is why it'd be a Switch 1 project.
