Isn't that amazing how wonderful the engineering in 1959! a little fresh gas new battery and not even 2 full cranks, she wants to run!

My dad had a 1958 coronet 2 Dr sedan, flat head 6, power flight automatic for about 7 yrs when I was a kid. It was in really great condition, he traded it in on another car, they only gave him 200 bucks for it, that has made me sick for about 50 yrs now.

Can’t kill a flathead. Easy start since they have low compression. What a fantastic car. I have a 53 DeSoto.

Chrysler's famous late-50s slogan was "Suddenly, It's 1960!'". But a look under this hood and 'Suddenly it's 1920!'. Wow - a flathead six!

@@johnsonscorner7065 Not knocking flatheads. A few yeas ago, I visited a neighbor who's into old Mopars. He had someone's a 28 Dodge in his driveway, and fired up the old flathead. Not only was it very smooth running, like a typical straight-six, it was also incredibly quiet, due to the simple valvetrain, buried inside all that heavy cast-iron!

You COULD get a real Red Ram HEMI though, unlike today's now cancelled fake poly Hemis. 🚀

I always liked the 59 Dodge. I remember one of the local Dodge dealers, Meline Motors in Clinton Mass always had a lot of them to look at. Tried to get my Dad to buy one, but he bought a 59 Plymouth instead. My first car was a 59 Chrysler New Yorker.

a new fuel pump is a good idea too, the replacement is designed to resist alcohol in the fuel. The new one has better suction and primes the carb faster too.

Thank you sir for posting this amazing video. I envy you for still having the 1959 Dodge you drove in high school. When I was 17 years old in January 1976 I bought a 1959 Dodge station wagon. My best buddy Glen from school had bought a 1959 Ford Custom 500, so I was inspired to buy a car from the 1950s. I am a Canadian, so the 1959 Dodge I bought was the Canuck version, with same front end as an American 1959 Dodge, but with the same interior & tail fins as a U.S. 1959 Plymouth. Cars made in the Dominion were weirdly different. Anyway, I really enjoyed your narration & explaining all the steps you went through to coax your lovely 1959 Dodge back to life. So glad you got her running again. I liked your comment when you got behind the steering wheel, about the tight fit. If I still had my 1959 Dodge Suburban station wagon nowadays I would have to suck my gut in. When I drove my '59 Dodge daily from January 1976 until July 0f 1979 I weighed about 135 pounds soaking wet with a 29 inch waist. Again, sir, it is so cool you still have your 1959 Dodge from your teenage years, in the second decade of the 21st century. What happened to my 1959 Dodge? Well, by July of 1979 the transmission was messed up & nasty rust started appearing in the rocker panels & over headlights. I replaced my '59 Dodge with a 1960 Plymouth Fury, but yeah, that's a story for another time.

you should check the heat riser on that engine, its between the intake snd exhaust manifolds. im working on a 48 dodge with that engine. usually they stick in the closed position. ebay has a rebuild kit for them.

I sure hope that you don't sell this beautiful old Dodge to someone that will take it & turn it into a MONSTER by putting a HEMI 440 engine & 4 on the floor trans. It is such a great old car that should be restored to its original showroom new condition. I hate it when such a car is butchered & loses its true beauty. I just viewed such a crime, a beautiful 1955 red & black 2 dr HT Plymouth. It was so sad to see what they did to that car. Some may say they made it better. not me.

Our family had a "59! My father bought it new and it had a 326 cid V8. Came from Missouri, but the winters in Wisconsin with salt just killed that car. By 1965 she was like swiss cheese, rust holes all over and No trunk floor at all.......Two tone blue. Thanks for the memory!

She's a real stripped down version . Manual drum brakes. No power steering, 6 cylinder. Must be a beast to drive, but being low optioned, makes her much more rare. My 58 cadillac that my parents bought in 1960, has power everything including factory AC. Lifelong Southern California car, still on the road. Thx for showing us your very nice, super rare Car. Now get her out and enjoy her!

@1575murray
@1575murray Жыл бұрын
Dodge did not have the poly 318 until 1960 before that it was Plymouth only. In 1959 Dodge Coronet got a one year only 326 poly which was a 318 bored .040.
@mickangio16
@mickangio16 Жыл бұрын
I was expecting a Poly, too. I didn't even know they built flathead sixes all the way to 1959. I had experience with a flathead six Chrysler engine in a forklift. I took for granted that it was an EARLY 50s engine.
