My grandmother had this exact car when i was young. Hers was pea green with green vinyl top. My parents had to borrow it for a couple wks and my sister HATED that car! My dad would bring us to the skating rink to drop us off and she'd try to get him to drop is off a few blocks away which made him decide he was dropping us off at the door in front of all of our friends😂. I didnt mind at all, her on the other hand was to the point of being so embarrassed she'd start crying 😂. Fun times

@kevbev1524 😅 the bad thing is my parents car (that was broken down) was a country squire wood panel station wagon that was in rough condition but she wasn't embarrassed of that. I was actually kinda embarrassed of that car.

It's a really great find. The blowby may be an issue, I had an experience when I was younger, I put the blowby road draught tube into a container and saved the oil that was blowing by it was so bad every 100 miles it would blow all my oil out, I'd just pour it back into the motor.. did that for a year... then she finally quit on me. Great car. I love it, what a beautiful design. They don't make 'em like that anymore.

I think Brad, and McKay would have enjoyed the Packard trip better cause, it doesn't have valve covers to leak on the exhaust manifolds, right?!! The Impala is just too new! Hey now, the intake manifold is leaking oil! Good thing it didn't do that 500 miles ago!

wow i remember having the same car with everything working perfectly including the AC, Same 327/4 barrle 300 hourse 2 speed power gluide trans and it was a weekend driver. I ended giving it away to a needing single mom with 2 kids that lost everything after huricane Andrew in 1992 she drove it for 3 year worry free until she was able to get back on her feet in a stable home, she took the kids to school in it and it never left her stranded when going to work. i missed that car. i miss not having any of my old pictures of it. it was original blue poly you cant kill that motor and he transmission is bullet proof you cant kill it. WOW,

One thing about those little inline fuel pumps, they're really made to push fuel not to pull fuel.. so keeping them up in the engine bay, that's really going to shorten the expected life of those things dramatically.. I recommend keeping them as close to the fuel tank as possible, on the gravity side of the exit, as to where there's no real resistance on the pump and it's simply pushing the fuel up to the front of the car.

Love this type of thing. I just bought a 35 year old Chevy truck for $750. Drove it around town for a few days. Fixed two sensors. Then drove it from Oregon to North Carolina in 6 days for Christmas with my family. No issues at all besides a flat tire from road debris. Get out there. Enjoy some adventures.

When I was a teenager, the first car I had was a '58 Chevy Delray with a 283 with license plate floorboards. It had so much blow by that I had to tie the dipstick in with a coat hanger wire. We would pull into the gas station and the phrase "check the gas and fill it with oil" was real. Great adventures Merlin!

I would also say too, that IF I were to own and bring any Chevy of choice back to at least a driver type restoration , then one of these particular body type cars , would be the one I’d want ! They’re just somehow one of the very best examples , of a luxury vehicle , plus having a very sporty look at the same time !

My Grandpa had one of those when I was a kid back in the early 70's. He was a Chevy master mechanic with a couple decades of service. It was Premo until he got wrecked into by someone without insurance. His insurance totaled it, and he bought it back. Let it sit out in back of his house until He passed away. Like most folks ... He always said "I'm gonna fix it up one day". But it eventually when to the crusher. Keep up the great work You all do! Thank You for sharing. ✌

Tried to turn left to miss truck and to slippery so the passenger side back quarter panel introduced itself to the front pumper of the truck. 0 damage to truck but caved in side quit nicely. Brought back memories for me Merlin. In the late 70's I was barely a teenager and a brand new auto mechanic. One of my mom's friends that we went to church with lived 3 houses down from us. She had an identical 65 Impala. Same shade of blue although faded. It had a 283 two barrel and the 2 speed powerglide transmission. You always knew the sound of a powerglide transmission because they had a whine to them at idle. I did all of her mechanic work on it and she let me drive them to church in it when I was 14 and not old enough to get a drivers license yet. I was so short I had to sit on one leg to be tall enough to drive it. It's life ended when she got rear ended at a traffic light and she ended up buying a 66 Rambler classic. The old Ramblers had a rear pump in the transmission of the automatics and you could push start it even though it was an automatic. But I digress. When you get tired of that old Impala you could always release it to me to take back to West Virginia. I would love to have it and restore it!. I'm retired now and have the time to tinker. Lol. Great video Merlin. Thanks for the memories.

Cool old Chevy. Great trip. When I was in my mid-teens, my family had a white 65 Impala, 4 door hard top, 327 4 barrel, just like this one. For a stock car it had some real get up and go. Unfortunately, about 6 months before I got my drivers license it was totaled in a 3 car accident. The other vehicles, a 70's Chevelle and a Corvair were also totaled. It was replaced with a 72 Impala, 350 2 barrel. What a disappointment. I look forward to see what you do with this one. Thanks for the great videos!!
