I remember when I was in high school (2007) I made myself a deck composing of warriors. One of my wincons was to summon 2 marauding captain and a cyber tutu to attack them directly and slowly chip at em. My spells and traps were mostly negate traps and spell to support the marauding captains. I remember there was even a game I used two xing zhen hu to limit their spell/trap usage with two marauding captain on the field. We didnt know tournament rules back then when it comes to limited cards etc we just built decks with cards we had from randomly buying packs/ starter decks.

It was years before pendulum was introduce when I last played and I remember going into a local tournament with a Ghostrick deck. It was fun and I had a blast and only won 2 matches. First one was cause my opponent was using Lightsworn monsters and thanks to the effect of his monsters and the effect of my Ghostrick Skeleton, I was able to made him decked out. The other didn't felt like much of a win cause my opponent was using a 60 card deck with lots of random cards that just didn't work well together so it took a while to reduce his life points to zero since Ghostricks don't have much high attacking monsters and the effect of Ghostrick Mansion to reduce their direct attacks by half
