Which is funny cause a good 70% of the water routes are optional and you can just use repels like you would for caves if you don’t wanna do random encounters. And the swim speed is the fastest in the whole series if you use Sharpedo to surf. The only thing that’s ‘too much water’ imo is the number of water type Pokemon vs other types in the regional dex.

As far as competitive goes, I think a lot of the S2 nostalgia comes from being many people's introduction to the series, being close to a launch title on a console that sold much more than the Wii U. Granted, there was S1 nostalgia during 2's life in the same way, but since 3 has more returning players by comparison, you see those kinds of comments more often.

I felt like I can barely enjoy S2 casually cuz it had no Open ranked, the rank system sweats me, and we can hardly even play Turf together with a friend without waiting for 3mins+. No recon mode to relax either. Tiny hub to walk around. No lobby to just paint around in or decorate locker. There's more ways to relatively relax in S3 than S2 I'd say
