I think part of it is the poly resin isnt quite as glossy to start so the edges show more 🤷♀️

Claire, I am SO PROUD of you for using a PPE. A respirator is something I can not get through to people enough…..I am a Masters RN or Nurse Practitioner as we say here and ER/Trauma is my specialty. I don’t have enough digits to tell you how many times we get a patient who presents with pulmonary issues usually due to chemical exposure. Lungs are a tricky organ and we do need them for life so thank you for sharing that and I hope you do in every vid as I am a new Sub so bless your heart for making that clear to people. The only thing I would like to add that I feel you missed, especially using these chemicals if the REALLY important part of our daily life that is very close to breathing insofar as priority goes and that is your EYES…..they are a mucous membrane and it is SOOOO equally important to protect them as well. Unlike the lungs which can, in most cases, come back from chemical exposure…..eyes do not. Even a teeny tiny “splash” or “flick of the cocktail stick” goes into your eye…..that is the scariest thing to think of as the body is an amazing self healing thing for most “accidents” however we need to be smart about it soooo, IF I can get even one person to think hard and even just grab a cheap pair of clear lenses to wear while crafting with chemicals, that would be a WIN!!! Better safe than sorry and you can get some really cute clear lenses without a prescription, on Amazon and if you do NEED glasses to see, saver your old pair to use just for crafting? OR, if your optometrist will put in a set of your prescription lenses into an old frame for you for a less expensive option, ask if they can be made in GLASS and the reason for that is that if you DO get a wee “splash” GLASS can be cleaned far easier or even wait for the resin to cure and you can usually “flick” it off with a finger nail without any scratch if the lenses are glass…..can’t do that with plastic…… Just a share and a cautionary tale as eyes are a MUST just as breathing is!!!❤ MUCH love to you and keep doing what you do! You make us all smile just watching and listening to you. You are a doll and I LOVE that you test and try everything to strive for perfection. You’re the best!❤❤❤❤

My suggestion would be 2 different things, first I think you should dip the clear sticker in your resin before adding it to the pendant then rub it down and top coat #2 I think it will work better with a 2 part resin. But I was so excited to see this one!! I have so much washi tape and idk what to do with it so anytime I see a video using it in any way I have to watch! It's a total addiction!! ❤❤❤❤🤗

I've GOT it. If the sticker is not cut so jaggerdy (lol) it won't show the fish scales. I've purchased professional PET stickers, and the cuts are so smooth that they just dissapere in the resin, and it makes the edges invisible. ❤❤❤

I've watched this one three times now and tried the uv rub coat. 100% consistent results with yours. I also tried burnishing the Washi Tape down with a bone folder with slightly better results on some days. I wonder if your results might be different, now that you live in another house. If memory serves, 1959 or so? I suspect that storing my Washi Tape on my desk in the cold months might have something to do with it. Perhaps it's me. But I feel like the tape sticks better in the summer. My humble abode is vintage 1969, so it's not insulated like a 2000s home.

On the angle of the shot of the transfer once you put the resin on at certain angles it looks like the washi tape is perforated all over with microscopic holes.... might be my eyesight though lol 😁 I looked again and Its the first one you did after you put the resin on but not rubbed, the resin magnifies it and it shows the best at the bottom of the piece....

You rubbed it underneath but, didn't do it on top, for the the 3rd or fourth. It's the experiment before the last. The flowers were placed on the bottom and a portion of the top was blank? Thanks for sharing your findings as you experiment on this! I wonder if the heat of the UV resin curing causes the adhesive on the tape to warp and this causes a slight de-lamination that results in these shiny spots. Or maybe the slight shrinkage of the resin as it cures shifts the sticker away from the surface it’s bonded to very slightly - just enough to show in places and sometimes even stop the resin making contact with the backing pendant in extreme cases. I think the adhesive being the cause might explain why your experiment of adding a layer of resin _under_ the sticker also didn’t work. If the shiny spots do have something to do with the curing process interfering with the adhesive, that might explain why your rub coat works, because that very small amount of resin would have a less dramatic effect during curing, and once that’s sealed the top coat is no problem. I wonder if there’s some other kind of coating you could use to seal the tape in place then top with resin to avoid messing with the adhesive bond. Or maybe there’s a way to cure the resin so that it doesn’t generate as much heat while curing (or shrink less? Idk)?

Nice! I'm wondering if the "iridescent" fish scale look is somehow the adhesive on the clear PE washi tape itself? If you take a piece and just rub it onto a piece of clear glass you might be able to see how the adhesive looks just stuck and burnished onto something clear you can see through without the resin. Then with resin. Might narrow down the culprit. 🤔 Just a thought ❤

Hash tag sciscors.. -paper scissors -cloth scissor -scissors for tight delicate spots. -scissors for whatever -cloth scissors. For this project i have about 1-3 in scissors used for delicate, tight and intricate cutting. You need scissors for paper, cloth, vinyl and plastic Scissors are the best investment you’ll ever make and keep them separate.. Like a chef and their knives. Your scissors and dont let others use. Use common sense on what to use. I havent covered all material and 3 types of scissors should do it. Paper scissors and vinyl scissors need the smallest and regular size. I really dont need to say this but left handed people need to use left handed scissors. The best cutters i know are left handed and they cant cut a crooked line with right handed scissors. PS dont forget to keep sharp at the right angle. Use a pair that isnt from the dollar store but isnt the best or the worst. Use the pair you use on the rough cut scissors. I love your site and never mean anything as being ruse or a critism. Im adding little things i’ve found that you may appreciate or may not. But i love what you do and feel you are so hard on yourself. You dont need to be hard on youself you do an amazing job. Thank you for all the time, effort, money that you put in to helping us improve our projects as well as giving is amazing ideas. Sorry for any and all spell check or finger oops. I try to catch them but…god bless you and have a beautiful spring and summer.

What about using guilding glue for foil under washi tape so it is tacky to seal the edge. Then either rub coat or top coat or both. I wonder if it is the adhesive. If washi tape made an non adhesive version and you applied uv resin under the washi tape.. cured it ..then did rub coat and top coat...or just top coat ..I wonder what you would get?
@artisanbirddesigns38549 ай бұрын
When regular resin cures, it contracts. I imagine the same is true for Uv resin. So, not doing a “rub” coat will result in the resin contracting which could pull the tape up. When you did the vid with the sticker washi tape, you used a fair amount LESS UV resin for the rub coat… if you do an even thinner layer (like the first vid), it may work as well as the first video.
