Marty, nobody can plan everything in a house build and have no problems. I've been doing this kind of work for over 50 years and I've never seen a perfect build. You just do your best in planning and go for it. Attack the problems as they come. You guyz have been doing great through the whole building process and I marvel at your family's willingness to help.

Just for safety on electrical main line, it should be clamped over cable insulation, not on wires itself, clamp can cut into wires and cause a short on entrance of breaker box.
@serenabrownrealtor73453 күн бұрын
The connection inside the main panel is going to cause fail. The plastic part should be inside the panel to prevent cable damage
@mackfisher44874 күн бұрын
Electrical violation, in your service panel at 26:23 you show the Cable Clamp was installed backwards. The 2-screw clamp portion of the connector should be on the outside of the panel, be sure to have a supplied metal locknut then a plastic bushing on the inside. Depending upon which NEC code year your state is using there are other things that may be required such as multiple ground rods, and outside disconnect switch. Good Luck
@norsk544724 күн бұрын
DIYer here, put in my original solar system 25 years ago. I agree, in backwards - also, you need to have the conductor's outer covering come into the box at least 1/4" and not tighten the clamp directly onto the inside conductors when I did my first inverter install I also used #6 feeder. later I upgraded and needed a bigger feeder, like a #4 for 70 amps, but I put in a #2 awg and a 100 amp breaker for possible future inverter increasing yet again. Just one of those things one learns by experience. Of course your distance from power house to house is much greater than mine. Some URD direct burial AL inside conduit would be cheaper than CU. For those others considering a similar project been following and love your build

Let me pass on some advice. You didn't need to cut the stud, or the sheathing. Next time just use an Arlington siding box, such as the 8081F. It has removable tabs, so it can easily be retrofitted. Just cut a square opening in your siding, attach the box, seal with siding sealant, and you are done. It would look professional and keep the water out. Those blue boxes are not good for this application.

Great work. Commendable how much you understand about all the different disciplines of construction. I've learned so much from watching your channel. I think I understand why the inspector said to put the romex inside flexible non-metallic conduit...He's considering your crawl a dry space (romex is only for dry spaces) but he thinks the area around your pressure tank poses a physical damage risk to the cable (romex is not adequately protected). Maybe because you're using the space for storage? This is one of the few cases where you'd want to run romex in a conduit. The internet experts get super uppity about romex in conduit; most conduit locations are damp locations, and romex can't go in a damp location.

Pass or fail is always in the eyes of the inspector. If you had a good relation when he inspected the rough in and where up front as the homeowner, that you were doing the wiring I have found the inspectors will work with a homeowner. The bits of pieces you show in the video all looks clean. On the day of inspection, I would make sure all your electrical is "accessible" for Mr. inspector to access, some will want to plug check every outlet make sure GFCI will trip, check make sure all smokies are linked together, any appliances that are hardwired have breaker lockouts installed in the panel. I think he will pass you.

Agreed, fractions are pretty easy. With that said I wish the US had switched to metric back in the late 70’s. Many companies have changed for the better, but I’m sure for the younger generation, having two different measurements can be a little confusing. But overall, metric is generations ahead imperial….. But the US has always used metric regarding the monetary system.

You could do this as well. Angle the measuring tape diagonally until an even number. Example straight measurement 29 1/2 then measure on the diagonal to 30, center is 15… Really helps with harder fractional values.

Dear Johnsons. I've been following your channel for years and I really love your family's homesteading work. I am also very interested in your prepping advice. I am an elderly Jew living in Jerusalem, Israel. Since the horrors of October 7th 2023 and the 14 months' war that followed, many things that you are thinking about have already happened here. Many Israelis have realized after the horrific terror attack that we cannot always rely on the authorities to respond quickly and fully. Therefore, many civilians armed themselves (an official permit is required here), stocked food, water and medications, installed domestic backup generators for basic emergency needs, built domestic safe rooms and bomb shelters, and acquired alternative means of communication. There was no mass panic or Prepping rhetoric - only calm, decisive action. But the most important factors (which we had to learn the hard way in Israel) are: Having Faith and upholding the Community Spirit! Most of us simply got together, helping each other, volunteering to support our brave troops and the victims of the hostilities. Indeed, there is a part of our public that is acting against this spirit, but they are a shrinking minority. Most Israeli Jews are coming closer to our ancient Faith and Tradition, which include our family and community values. It may not look like that in the mainstream media, but it is clear that many ordinary citizens in Israel, as well as in many other places in the Free World, are becoming more patriotic and religious. So all these different fronts - from Ukraine to the Middle East - really mean one global clash between the true believers of this world and our cruel enemies. Therefore, let us stick together across the world in hope and true prayer that what we are seeing is the beginning of better times, of the long awaited redemption! God bless you all and keep up the good work! Ehud

Hmmm....I didn't think NEC allowed "Romex" inside conduit. Like you said, it depends on the state you live in. Curious to find out if you pass. Let us know.
@thesmallterror2 күн бұрын
People almost always use conduit in a damp location (e.g., outdoors). Romex can't be used in a damp location, even if its inside conduit. His crawl is actually a dry location, so this an allowed example of romex in conduit. The conduit only serves to physically protect the romex.
