Becoming an Atheist was great for me and I am a much kinder and better person to my fellow man since I know we only have one world and we need to respect one another and get along with each other, something not all religions do. I now realize that all religions have no demonstrable evidence to warrant belief in any of them, it is just wishful thinking. So people might like the idea of eternal life, that sounds great, but it doesn't make it true. All religions use these 4 things to for belief. 1. They all use faith. But if faith can convince people to believe in every god or gods including their own, then it isn't a good method for finding the truth. At best only one religion can be true, if any. 2. They use personal experience. But if personal experience can convince people to believe in every god or gods including their own, then it isn't a good method for finding the truth. 3. They all have some type of holy book, not a single one is perfect and all clearly written by man. They claim their book is true because their book says it is true. I guess believers don't know what circular reasoning is. 4. All religions have other people telling us stories that their religion is true. Yet not one has an actual god or god's that show themselves to us. These gods or a god don't even give us one piece of demonstrable evidence to warrant belief in them. It just like they don't exist. My advice, next time someone tells you their religion is true, ask them for demonstrable evidence, and is this evidence falsifiable. Don't fall for an argument that can be applied to any gods or a god, this is a common tactic when asking for demonstrable evidence. And remember, just because you like an idea, doesn't make it real. I changed religion when young. Ketu in the 8th house. This was one of the best decisions in my life.... I had been brought up in protestant by my strict grandmother but was then influenced by hippie ideas and eastern philosophies. I liked the idea of reincarnation and enlightenment, so when I went to a conference about "the nature of the mind" I later went to see this Himalayan master and he said in my former life I had been in the Himalaya, because I could repeat what he said with no difficulty. He said this religion could help me a lot and advised me what to practice.

I’m a former Christian. Shedding the divine: self-righteousness, selective morality and ignorance central to religious belief has made me a better person, I think. Though, once you become an atheist you certainly understand why people would make-up gods to cope with death.
