This dudes a genius. Not only is he training the dog, he’s training his viewers on how to do these exercises on their own. He’s using explanation of what he wants to do, reasoning in why he is doing it, then constantly repeats what we need to do to try these exercises at home properly. He’s a great teacher for dogs and humans as well. Awesome stuff 👍🏼

The funny part is that the things that make him a good techer to humans also make him a good trainer to dogs. Dogs want to do what you tell them but you need to make them understand the rules. If you don't stick to the rules how are they supposed to learn them!?

He presents training in 7 days. Each of 7 items are commands that he believes a dog should know. They are presented in part ii of the book kzbin.infoUgkxK8-VQWpYThx4IC6MiIvb6VS1ebTzzdxq . The parts of the guideare divided: part i know your dog part ii the seven commands part iii cures for 7 behavior problems. Each chapter presents a topic, a dog's story, and a "what to do". It was written simply and you can jump from chapter to chapter to review anything as needed.

I’m not a professional trainer but I’ve always taught all my dogs to recall to a marine whistle. This is a whistle attached to life jackets and can be heard for miles over a flat terrain like water and can be heard by dogs from great distances even in city like terrain. I use liverwurst as the reward for the recall to the whistle. To me having a way to recall a dog might wonder off to a distance beyond what our voices can travel is possibly lifesaving. Great video! Love your content!!

Our golden retriever breeder gave us our puppy with a whistle. They trained all the pups from very very young, whisteling and then putting their food down. My first video of yours to watch. I especially like that it is in progress training vs showing a technique with an already trained dog. I had to restart my now 3 year old English Shepherd recall at 1.5 years as I got lazy about acknowledging check in looks to me and not enough reward (praise or food) for spontaneous returns on our off leash walks. We have done well with not only upping voice and food, but other rewards such as a quick fetch (fav game) and the ultimate reward … playing in the water hose (queue is Sprinkler!!). He now picks up a stick on his way back to me if it is a recall from distraction (deer, squirrel). Ultimately, we are always doing a bit of practice, even on normal walks and I remind myself to keep MY head in the game! BUT, I am always learning and learning how to teach. I look forward to more of your videos!! Thank you.

I adopted a dog the other day, one who'd been more or less a stray a lot of her life - in a month, she's gone from being rescued with her mate to having a litter, mothering the pups and weaning them, then being the last one waiting to be adopted. She's been through a lot, and didn't even know what a dog toy was before her initial rescue. Needless to say, this girl doesn't have an idea about training. Lessons like these are really going to come in handy!

... this is just sad to read , as this is one of the worse recall videos Ive ever actually seen. To each its own, but if you couldnt see the issues in this you shouldnt be training dogs either. The whole point of a GOOD RECALL is for off leash, so why teach the dog on a leash?? If verbal is not enough, minimal e collar usage is the answer but this dog was coming on the verbal command but when its on a leash it will act different then off so its not even fair to train the dog in this manner, let it off the leash with all the energy and then lets see what happens. Usually his videos are good but this was bad bad.
@margoravenspire2604
@margoravenspire2604 Жыл бұрын
@yummybong148 he said at 2:12 he will eventually train the dog off the leash AFTER he understands the whistle recall perfectly. Why should he let the dog off the leash when he doesn't know yet if the dog will run off or stay close? Seems safer to train with a long slip lead and whistle as the first step-- especially for a dog that gets overly excited by other animals or people nearby and might just take off
@yummybong148
@yummybong148 Жыл бұрын
@@margoravenspire2604 ... you can literally work on recall within your house or a fenced yard and progress from there. You do realize this guy has a facility right so its a controlled environment, so what are you on about cause you clearly didnt read my whole message or youd realize alot of what was stated had reasons with better options takling about this guys comment and not the video itself. I even said the dog in this video is responding to the recall well before he whistles so his whistles are pointless so I have no clue what your on about.

That is such a good way to teach the dog and dog owners. I have Brittanies and they are both working dogs and family pets (a Brittany is a perfect combo of both) and this is what I’ve done with my dogs - this method just works 👏🏻

I know this is an older video now but just come to say THANK YOU. My 8 month old cockapoo has been really stressful to walk since he has hit puberty and I actually began to dread walks. Since finding your videos and using the skills - he is a completely changed dog! I didn’t think it would work so quickly with him but it has and you’ve really improved our lives! Not exaggerating! Thank you.

So much nicer than the whistles I hear a lot of dog users blowing. I suspect it's ones that average human hearing can't detect so they've no idea how excruciatingly painful they are to those of us who can hear them (presumably including the poor dog). Such a lovely gentle training process too. Real joy to see!

Really excellent training, very well explained and made simple - and it really is this easy! So many people just fail at the basics and being repetitive.

Nice work - also pleasant whistle sound. Here in Portugal, some trainers use those super-shrill "normal" whistles. Which alert not only their dog, but everyone in the village. Sandy's such an amazing guest star!

Thankyou so much for your amazing videos. It makes a change to see a trainer working with a dog that needs training demonstrating the behaviour you want to change rather than others who show you how to train a dog that's already perfect. My dog is a super friendly happy dog but pulls alot and has zero recall so I'm excited to change his equipment from harness and halti to slip lead and try your methods.
