Possibly my most in depth video yet. “How to beat a bigger opponent?” is a question I see fairly frequently. In this video, we’ll cover some of my favorite concepts and techniques for beating larger opponents. Winning against stronger, heavier people can seem impossible at times, but it’s truly not and I hope to give you some direction on how to make it happen with this video. Jiu Jitsu is already a fun art, but when you learn how to beat bigger, stronger opponents, it really becomes a good time. Enjoy!
Train well,
Will

Your videos have been so incredibly helpful to me, everything makes so much sense and has helped me 'click' things. And I also really love how you mention to make sure to treat your partners with care. I am a 5'5 woman going against way bigger guys in my gym and I tell them to not hold back completely as I want to be able to learn things correctly, but I have gotten hurt unnecessarily a few times now (broken tooth, overstretched ligament in my elbow after an explosive armbar) because the weight difference is so big and I am no match to their strength biologically. You make sure to mention it in your videos, every coach in every gym should mention this during training. This video was super helpful as well!

I hate to see people hurt on the mat. Like my teacher used to say: if you break you training partner today, who are you going to train with tomorrow? Light rows with lighter people also helped me a lot improve my greaps, control and guard overall. There's always room to work in a way that will help both on the roll

Watched this before training last night and used one of the takedowns during open roll. Worked every time and nobody saw it coming. I’ve never got that many takedowns in a night. I even got the higher belts. Love this channel and glad I started following.

Thanks for taking the time in these videos. When you talk with the lighting I feel at peace and the slow motion examples help. I'm almost same size as yourself. 5'11 and 220 pounds. My brother however is same height as myself and 355 pounds. I'm always trying stuff out on him. But he's really hard to move. He's also insanely strong. He used to play football in school and i even remember him dragging me by one leg all over a park lol. Ill keep these ideas in mind and if you have more tips I would love to hear them 🙏🏾

Your format is great and as a marketing professional I'm very impressed with your editing and presentation. I recently joined a BJJ gym who hired me for a project and we worked out a trade deal and I'm loving it. As a white belt with a Blue Prajiad Muay Thai background your videos are definitely helping me with my BJJ and I really appreciate them man. I'm 6'2" and 225lbs but there's a guy at my gym who's 6'4" (or bigger) and God only knows how heavy. Even "big" guys like me need videos like this. Thank you.

Gonna have to watch this one on my lunch break. Also wanted to ask your input on a situation at my gym. I'm a 2 stripe white belt, just about 2 years in, there's a new student in our gym, younger guy, super built, stronger type. He just uses his strength instead of technique. I went to pass his legs the other night, dude straight crane kicked me in the neck. He's more focused on just trying to overpower the folks he rolls with. Best way, in your opinion, to handle this?
@willbrooksofficial
@willbrooksofficial 4 күн бұрын
@@jaysonholman2791 don’t let him or anyone like this discourage you. Continue to sharpen your technique and eventually his power without skill won’t mean much anymore. If I were you, I’d use him to embark on a secret side quest that only you know about. Make it a point to learn how to finesse his power to your advantage. He’s challenging you and that’s honestly a good thing. The toughest challenges make for the greatest rewards.

Control. Control. Control. If you are rolling with someone bigger and stronger you need to be in those dominant positions and be using very good technique to put pressure on them. If that fails you need to create SOLID frames, SOLID hooks, and just in general get the most control you can get in those bad positions. You need to be much more on point with your game and not make stupid decisions. Be methodical in your decisions and with just that mentality you are in a better mindset most likely than your rolling partner or your competitor and with that you are gaining advantage.

As a white 53 yo belt with no strips, we did 3 leg lock variations today! The tricky part was getting my elbow completely around ankle of my partner and gripping my gai to hold the leg in place. I struggle with bigger AND younger guys who turn me into a pancake despite framing lol. I weigh about 93kg, so not small but feel small when rolling!
