A small miracle that this is here. For 38 years, I've wanted to hear this again, one of the best commencement speeches in my decades of sitting through them, and am grateful that you recorded it then and posted it here. Thanks.

I was a graduating student in the audience. It's amazing how many details of the speech I still remember. Great stuff -- funny, self-deprecating, not too heavy.

That's great. I actually graduated the following year, and the speech was "blah" compared to Mr. Goldman's masterpiece. I think his speech is what started my obsession with researching "best of" commencement speeches each year.
