William Hamilton and the Jetboat

Hamilton's amazing inventiveness is here paid proper tribute. He invented the jetboat but so much more besides.

In the seventies my fiends bought a Hamilton jet boat it was called shear enjoyment powered by a ford 6 cylinder zephyr engine what a wonderful time we had with it to give a power boost I made a turbo charger kit for it the sound and speed was fantastic it only lasted one water skiing season which great fun But power caused the impeller bearings to rapidly wear out. We removed the turbo kit and rebuilt the jet unit all back to standard used for the following year then sold it brilliant memory’s

My partner is the great granddaughter of Sir Charles William Fielding Hamilton AKA Bill Hamilton. Her family used to live and own Irishman creek farm. Memories of a man and family I am interested to be part of.

My old man knew Bill Hamilton we quite well when he was a contractor on the very first Pukaki dam, we used to stop in at Irishman’s for a cup of tea whenever we were heading north, my brother got a ride with him on the Ohau river when he was testing it as theOhau back before the hydro was quite a wild river, we used to tube it as kids.

Im a south islander proud and true but hamilton wasnt the first to invent the jet boat . the US marines had jet propulsion landing craft in the 2nd world war . developed in the bayous and I think unpatented by the designer for the war effort . like the bloke who invented the "thermette" or the Benghazi" in NZ and asked for no royalties . true patriots to both countries . its a myth that he was the first .

@@anarchisthistoryofnewzeala541 depends whether it is a steel one or an original copper jacket (well blackened, of course!) Best material nowadays is stainless steel ...made as "perks" by stainless steel fabricators during "breaks"! Good luck!

The mechanical arrangement may be a ducted propeller (axial-flow pump), a centrifugal pump, or a mixed flow pump which is a combination of both centrifugal and axial designs. So which design was used in ww2?,The Hamilton jet units arent an exact clone of the MLCs propulsion which were labled as "crude",The motor landing craft (MLC) was designed by J. Samuel White of Cowes. (UK) in 1926. At the outbreak of the Second World War, six MLCs were based in Britain and three more were with British forces in Malta...Bayou are you out of your fucking mind hahaha. British built some type of jet unit theres little or no detail about it maybe because it was so crude there was no point in documenting it? who knows americans had nothing to do with it stop trying to spread fake news and get your facts right!

He never claimed to invent it. He pioneered the commercial waterjet engine.
