Fascinating piece. The opening two minutes, a shimmering horizon in sound, give way to a struggle with horns and strings seeming to do battle. The theme from that is then reiterated, distantly, over more lines. Strings, brass and percussion once more engage in a set-to until the strings, with piano and harp, settle into another line before a final brief cataclysm brings the composition to a close.
