Thats because sian is the last child and have 4 older sister, it is important to make you not rely on your elder sibling too much, afraid of something is one of it. He has to be brave too. I learn it this from read parenting book, raising first kids and last kids is so much different, i'm sure donggook and his wife have been heard about it too.

The fathers also had different upbringing and Sam's family is Mormon, which is typically more family oriented than non religious people. Everyone has their own parenting style and it's a journey not a race, there's no need for comparisons.
