William Pino found himself in a dance studio at a very young age. That was the start of a relatively short but intense and strong career. His dance partner, Alessandra Bucciarelli, was the one he’d marry. By 20 they were the only couple in the world that won all major competitions under 21: International, Blackpool, German Open etc. At 21 they were top 6 in the world, at 26 world champions, at 27 already professionals. And that’s how you do it Italian style!
Topics discussed in this episode:
The beginning of his dance career;
His motivation to dance;
The role of music in ballroom dancing;
The most important strength of a couple: realness;
Looking like a ballroom dancer vs. Being a ballroom dancer
5 things that make a successful couple.

I feel very fortunate to have been actively competing at the period William refers to with the Italian couples at the very top. So many wonderfully charismatic as well as technically brilliant dancers. By comparison I've found the past decade a little boring in terms of the personalities and styles. I based my own dancing on William Pino and Luca Berrechi, primarily because of their floor presence dance styles and charisma. Some coaches don't necessarily dance what they teach. William and Elessandra certainly do. One of the real masters of Ballroom dance style.

8:00 We are truthful in our teaching, we know the source of ballroom and pass on with our experience as well, we are not trying to be fashionable.

11:45 The ballroom big nation is shifting from Nordic, Italy, Russia… it’s ok, but when it stuck it will be a problem.

10:30, Ballroom dancing includes ballroom, music, 2 people danced in the music…… other than this it’s no ballroom dancing. We do what we are good at, We don’t try to become something that we are not.
