The person they’re talking about will continue to be spoken of, written of and celebrated long after they’re gone. Gotta love internet trolls, man. They feel that their opinion is somehow important. It isn’t. The only one who cares about their pitiful ruminations is themselves.

Apparently (anecdote only) one of the historical consultants arrived at the proposed filming area and asked where the bridge was. He was told, "We did some test shots but we found the bridge got in the way too much." The consultant nodded and said, "Aye... the English found that too." The sad truth is they likely just shot all the big group battle scenes in one big continuous filming session- hence why Stirling, Bannockburn and Falkirk all look so similar...

Wallace was born in western lowland Scotland, which was once known as Hen Ogledd, a people who spoke a Brythonic language called Cumbric. The Saxon speaking peoples of SE Scotland called them Welsh. There are many surnames that reflect that; Walch, Welch, Welsh, Willis, Wylie and of course, Wallace. It does not mean that he was descended from immigrant Welshmen. This theory was leapt upon by Unionists during the referendum debate, mocking that the Scots in the War of Independence were lead by first a Welshman, then a Frenchman (The Bruce).

@ninjacell2999
@ninjacell2999 4 жыл бұрын
@@ChloeClements34 No you misunderstand. You say that the people of Scotland want a referendum, but the percentage that voted SNP is less than 50%. Unlike General Elections, Independence referendums are not FPTP. This means less than 50% of Scottish people want another referendum. And that's assuming that everyone who voted SNP voted for them because they wanted a second referendum. Which is unlikely. Nicola Sturgeon knows she isn't getting a referendum anytime soon, but pushing that angle is the best way for her to secure votes. If she got one right now it's likely it would fail anyway.

There was an article in my local newspaper a while back written by a local historian. It was saying there was a hypothesis among some historians that William de Morey was the man behind the success in the battles lead by Wallace as De Morey was the war strategist. He was fatally wounded at Stirling Bridge and died not long after. It was all downhill from there for Wallace in terms of battle.

One certain misconception is that Wallace wore a kilt. He didn’t. No one did for another 400 years. Also only Highlanders wore kilts, which are northern Scotland. Wallace was southern, so he wouldn’t have anyway. The south only began wearing them when they realized tourists were more likely to spend money at your business if you were wearing one.

Being Scottish, it is pretty amazing that Wallace is our national hero/freedom fighter and like you said, not much is actually factually known about him. I do know just before his execution he did try to do a deal with Edward, but I guess it was 'too little too late' kinda patter...
