He plays them as broken chords for some reason

I think he has a very musical solution to the left hand pizz section - bowing most of the left hand pizz. I think it works really well. I can't hold down a chord with 1st, 2nd and 3rd and use my 4th to pluck all 3. I have a pupil who almost can who is studying this piece.
