This video will cover three key things I live by. After seeing how much everyone loved the $25k couch video I decided to use the rest of the footage I shot that day highlighting the 3 key point I was trying to make. My lightening and camera set up is linked below! Please use my affiliates link if you decide to purchase any of it! Every bit helps keep this channel alive!

I really agree with your ending point. I feel as though people who see helping others succeed as a direct threat to themselves are not the type of people to surround yourself with.

Photographer here (Hobbyist woodworker) but what you said about taking on jobs you don't like and starting to dislike what you do SERIOUSLY resonated with me. I just took on a part time job so I can reevaluate the kind of work I'm putting out and this really reaffirmed that I'm making the right choice long term!

@@WilliamDouglasCo I am simply a hobbiest, and do mostly turning, but I think the first video I saw of yours was "what people say to woodworkers" and was hooked from there. I know it's certainly a grind for you right now, clearly you're not adverse to risk or challenge as you have taken on en devours in two fields, in which both it's hard to carve out a living (woodworking and media content) Kids & family, new shop, trying to keep employees, having to pivot with COVID and moving... I respect the hustle you have going on and I honestly think you're going to do GREAT things, from some of the things you have said in your videos about wordworking they also apply to life, like don't try and do everything, just do your thing well and the customers will come to you... Just know I really enjoy your content. I don't watch tv or netflix... I'm happy with once a week or so watching one or two great videos on youtube then getting into the shop (So long as it's not -35C) and making something of my own. (albeit I will do my best not to make an epoxy river table 😂) Keep it up... I appreciate all you and your team does! Shylo

As woodworkers we never stop learning which is one of the beautiful things about this craft. I love what you said about being true to yourself. I really appreciate you sharing all this. My new business is actually all for charity. I make my living other ways and I'm lucky to be able to have the free time to do woodworking full time. Every cent of profit made will be donated to various charities to help save lives and make lives better. At the same time I get to enjoy doing what I love doing. @hudlim001
@hudlim001 3 жыл бұрын
@@WilliamDouglasCo You're doing great though! I follow a lot of Woodworking channels but find yours to be the closest to my motto and goals. I agree with the monetizing that might take a while. But I also think the content is priceless. There are KZbinrs literally providing content that has no value but earning millions, while videos on a trade like woodworking can educate generations to come. In my country, South Africa there is a huge generation gap in terms of furniture designers and makers. Mostly order folk are doing it and younger people show no interest in it. Hopefully channels like your (and perhaps mine once I actually start it) will motivate them to pursue a career or at the very least a hobby in furniture making.

Hey Will - question for you from Canada. What type of camera would you suggest and what price point?
@WilliamDouglasCo
@WilliamDouglasCo 3 жыл бұрын
It really depends on what you are trying to accomplish. If you want to focus on photo primarily then the price point comes down a bit. If you want to focus on video, then it gets a little more expensive. I am currently shooting on an R5 but have a RED on order. I was honestly getting great results with my brother in laws Sony a6400 though. That camera was under $1k which is amazing. The level of quality I want to be known for is extremely high so I went went major overkill than what is suitable for most. If you are interested in my current set up I have everything in my Amazon affiliates link in the description

I’m a contractor and I’ve regretted every single time taking work out of my specific skill set to pay bills or keep a crew working. I’m not happy, usually the customer is not happy and I’ll end up pissed at myself for breaking my own rules.

Yup yup yup. Especially #2. Find a way to keep your integrity and passion. With 7+billion people on this planet, chances are there's some that are into whatever weird shit you're into. Not only that, but by standing up for quality and craft, we set an example for people who have yet to understand the personal and societal value of heirloom-everything. Woodworking, buildings, tools, records, etc...

I also believe in sharing because nobody will live forever and the next generation doesn't seem to want to work hard. I'm hoping that at least someone will pick up my knowledge and use it and pass it on. I also did Martial Arts for 40 years and even though I'm happy to teach it for free, nobody turns up. Few people come for 1-2 sessions and drop out and get back to their entertainment. I'm seriously worried about the future generations

is it me or is the audio and video out of sync? In any case constant bitrate is your friend

What is constant bitrate!? It might be a little out. I forgot to clap before I started that first section so it was hard to line up
@JesemanuelRamirez
@JesemanuelRamirez 3 жыл бұрын
@@WilliamDouglasCo When referring to codecs, constant bit rate encoding means that the rate at which a codec's output data should be consumed is constant. There's a free program to fix these codec issues called Handbrake. I've used it on my source clips to not have audio sync issues.
@JesemanuelRamirez

@@WilliamDouglasCo Clapping or having a clap board is really important, if you see that the video or sound keeps falling farther and farther behind, its a bitrate issues, if not its an editing issue.

@@WilliamDouglasCo Hey no problem! I'm a woodworker myself, love your work! I'm in the process of doing what you said in the video of doing what you love and not making compromises for money. I'm stuck with small kitchen cabinets because I needed the money, but I'm slowly getting my machines in the shop, just got a new jointer moved in yesterday. Looking forward to the next video!
