Please do more Organic Chem 2 reactions. Your videos are so much more clear than our lectures. Seems like you're speaking English, and my professor is speaking Chinese.

Been watching Professor Dave since Honors chemistry my sophomore year of high school, all the way through AP chem, AP bio, Chem I and II in college, and now in Organic Chem I. Hands down the best chemistry channel! I want to teach high school chem and bio after I graduate and I'll definitely be recommending these to my students!

Hello sir, amazing video! Please could you explain why in the third question you wouldn't get hydrolysis on the chloride?
@shivanshumaurya_5 ай бұрын
I think if there's intermolecular shifting possible there's no need of hydrolysis. Moreover it can increase the chances of elimination
@ronakjain1872 Жыл бұрын
one important thing that R-X must be 1 degree or elimination competes over substituion and alkene are formed

What exactly is the role of the water in the third example reaction? It's not really participating in the reaction, is it? So wouldn't the same reaction also take place in a non-aqueous system?
@NewWesternFront2 жыл бұрын
This is a great question that I think Leah4Sci helped to answer for me. I think the idea is that if your solvent is the conjugate acid of the Nphile/Base, then it doesn’t solvate said molecule too much. But it can still stabilize carbocations and whatnot. Weigh in Davedawg?
