I'd love to see the sheet music for the melody. I don't hear very well and it's hard to pick out the nuances of the melody. Such a great song! But I have that image of Tim Blake Nelson floating in the air1 Not sure I couldn't giggle if this was played at a funeral!

He was one of the founding members of old crow medicine show who wrote wagon wheel and a member of the grand ole oprey then he went solo. Often covers appalachian songs of the early 1900s now considered public domain...not sure if your question was rhetorical but I love this guy and think he deserves way more recognition.

The song is in D, so he's playing in C with a capo on 2, which puts those C shapes into the key of D. Chords are I IV V, or C F and G shapes (D G and A are the chords we're hearing). There's a turnaround sometimes where he plays a D into a G, then back to C.
