As a kid in the early 70s, and a fan of the oakridge boys and the statler brothers, it was a huge loss when both groups true tenors steped down, still is a sound these 2 groups had that is lost forever.

A great tribute to one of my favorite gospel singers. I had the privilege of opening for the Oaks and meeting Willie shortly before he left the group (when I was a teenager). I learned to harmonize and sing tenor listening to his voice. I truly enjoyed reliving the Willie Wynn era of the Oaks, and beyond. Thank you Willie for all the great music and for putting your stamp on the Oaks and gospel music.

Don't forget Jim Hammill and even George Amen Webster of the Cathedral Quartet of the 70s.

That would have been between 1972 and 1973, which was the time Willie and Richard Sterban were together in the Oaks.
