Dog meat is generally a big taboo in Africa and many other parts of the world. But in some parts of Southern Nigeria, it is considered a delicious delicacy popular around Christmas time. In this documentary, we will interview a dog meat butcher to learn more about this fascinating culture!

The actual problem here is that the dog meat trade treats its dogs with utter discontempt and neglect. I wouldn't mind it so much if they were kept fed and relatively happy up until the point of death, but they clearly aren't. We have a duty to respect life, whether we eat it or not.

In England I am a Close protection Dog Handler I’ve been to Nigeria many times to the point that I now own property and a farm in Nigeria. I don’t have any problems with the cultural practices I have also enjoyed many of the local dishes when in Nigeria I often prefer to eat the local dishes. I have not tried Dog up to now but I would never condemn any person that does as they have the right to eat it or not.

I live next door to Nigeria in Benin. When I first moved here, I noticed there were zero stray dogs and cats like there were in Kazakhstan where I was living. I asked a Ukrainian lady who has lived in Benin for over 20 years why no stray cats and dogs and she said, “Because people EAT them!” I was taken aback but I wasn’t really that surprised. I do not remember what it tasted like, but it's important to recognize that intelligence is not limited to just pigs. During my time on a farm, I found both chickens and goats surprisingly smart as well. This shows how stupidly selective humans are. Some may argue that dogs are cuter, but have you ever seen a pig that hasn't been injected with growth hormones? Just remember, whenever you are eating meat, something dies, and be thankful that you get to eat meat.

Basenji dogs have an interesting history. They are an ancient African breed that used to hunt in packs. They do not bark like regular dogs. They make a yodelling sound. They are good hunting dogs and make protective family dogs. I am assuming that they are intelligent which makes me wish that the dogs had a better life in Nigeria. 🐈🐈 Sad....

Very few people eat dog meat in China nowadays. It was mostly eaten in the past 150 years when China became poor and weakened by foreign invasions and wars. Most people nowadays eat normal domesticated farmed animals such as pigs, chicken, ducks , fish, beef and some mutton. Just look at YT walkabouts in China. Many in China now keep dogs as pets. There are however many other communities around the world that eat dogs - Indonesia, Ghana, India, Korea, Vietnam etc. Before you condemm communities who eat dogs, there are many dogs in Western countries also are abandoned or used for racing/hunting/pet breeding farms and are put to sleep because nobody wants them too.
