Lovely spot. I'm sure the Wodehousen would soon warm to your amiable amble through their domain, knowing your pure of heart.

Hi Will☺ thanks for showing us that ancient site, when it was originally constructed we can't even guess at the communal efforts that's went into putting those stones in position, whoever was buried there must have been highly respected by his tribe, best wishe's mate, stay safe, Stuart uk.

local Cornish lad here. if you were to get a compass out (not a phone compass app, an actual compass) and walked around near that thing, it would have gone berserk. a sign that the stones are not ordered properly. about 120 years ago, the Quoit (which was originally a huge sarchophagus/enclosure) fell in a storm, and was rebuilt by some locals from Madron, unfortunately they didn't put it back together in the same way. the original structure would have looked completely different, and those large stones you were stood on would have also been part of the walls of it. it is not limestone, we have none here, it is _heavily_ weathered St Just granite, where the larger, harder quartz crystals protrude out because they are more resistant to the weathering. it is speculated that ornate patterns typical of Celtic art would have covered it, but that original surface is, of course, long gone.

Maybe I'm weird, but as you were walking to the stone structure, the mounds of dirt in-between the walked on grass. Are those remnants of old structures that could possibly be house's?
@WillLordPrehistoricSurvival4 жыл бұрын
Yes basically the foundations of a whole village

what's up with that weird names of places in England? Is that, by any chance, due to Celts or some other people?

Scrub oak groves and mistletoe, you're 'close to the earth' , where the Atlantic blows. Fifty years ago, when I was eleven, I was taken to the Penwith Moors and shown the sites my peoples past and gone. If you are Kernewek, it gives you a sense of identity and 'belonging' that will remain with you to the pit.
