the best way to get the measurements for the roof farm frame was to take the width of the wood, double it, then measure the width of the fan's inner bracket, then add it all together, thats gets you 2 sides with no errors. the other 2 sides would be the final length of the first 2, but remove the doubled number. as for avoiding splits, drilling 'pilot holes' in before putting the screw in almost completely removes the risk of splitting. a pilot hole is a drilled out channel a little smaller that the screw's width, so the central screw's shaft can slide in when drilling, but the spiral teeth still grip into the wood.

to prevent wood from shaping from thick screws (fan frame), use a drill bit just 2mm thinner than the screws and drill out the hole for the screw to fit in. it will hold because of the screw head.
@sharoncrawford015 ай бұрын
Will, you might want to Sikaflex over the screw heads in your roof vent, both to stop them getting rusty, but also to prevent any damp getting through them. It looks a bit messy on the outside, but should hopefully be worth it. Looking forward to part 4! :-)

To get a smooth tidy finish with silicone sealant, get a small bowl of warn water with a little washing up liquid in it. Wet your finger and smooth off. This method will also stop the silicone from sticking on your finger. As your finger returns to the bowl the access silicone will drop off into the warm water re wet your finger again and keep smoothing off. A warm wet finger is all you need 🤣

Nice video! Ain't you supposed to face the hinge of the fan cover to the front of the van? As you drive, the wind will get under it (even if it's in a closed position) and it will act as a sail and get ripped off. For anything electronic and mechanical, always give it a test first to make sure it all works before you install the said item. Now that you have modified the fan, it can't be returned to get your money back or get an exchange (hopefully it's only the button issue). It's good that you got the mechanic to have a complete look over; it sounds like the Amazon Van is in okay condition. Did you get him to have a look at the engine and transmission itself (to make sure it's in good condition, since you mentioned the engine has no power at certain gears)? It's also worth the mechanic test driving the van; he may see, feel, and hear potential issues you may have missed or been unaware of. When buying cheap stuff, sometimes buying cheap means you have to buy twice. So it may end up costing a lot more. I'm not saying to buy the most expensive, but buy the middle ground instead (if you want to reduce the cost).
