Thomas Scherrer OZ2CPU Teardown

Күн бұрын

Very simple design, Variac and a high voltage step up transformer, a few resistors and AC voltmeter, I was able to repair and restore this one, and also super fine calibrate the voltmeter, It was be a good adition to my power supply collection. The vintage tube at the end is called Crookes tube with a flipable maltese cross inside, thanks again :-)
Any info on Willy Nielsen ? the company ? other products ?

I use auto generated subs, i am sorry there are a few spelling errors,
maybe one day they can do it better..

(Thanks to all my Sponsors / Traders / Swappers / Sellers / Buyers, without your support and constant flow of cool items in/out, none of this would be possible)

There's a very good reason the transformer on the inside is mounted diagonally. It is to prevent the field from the transformer from interfering with the meter.

I was thinking this was a video about country singer Willie Nelson getting high on the farm, sitting there on that sack of seeds! :) ~Jack, VEG

Nice job, very cool device. I've fixed a few meter movements in my day, one tip to remove debris from around the coil and magnets is to use sticky tape, works for speakers too.

At 3kv and 400mA the power delivered is about 1,2 Kw i think from the size of the transformer that the test must be limited in time .

400mA? Are you sure this scarier-than-a-MOT device isn't a prototype for a danish electric chair? Also, if you find an insulation fault, you probably will find the part that caused the fault..... stuck in the furniture!

Greetings: I originally thought that you were offering a repair of a piece of test equipment. After reading your transcript I learned that this was a 3 kilovolt power supply not a high voltage meter. (Even monochrome television tubes had greater than 3kv anode voltages. The 4MA and 400MA probe connections are actually outputs NOT inputs for the voltage probe (that looks like ones used to measure high output voltages). With some current limiting (probably adding the voltmeter after the current limiting) and some safety measures, this could be modified into a great calibrator for multimeters with extended AC ranges (eg earlier Avo 8)....

0:57 that looks like an RCD tester, not a high voltage tester.

Why didn't you just move the glass from the black meter case to the white one?
@TeardownOZ2CPU
@TeardownOZ2CPU 4 күн бұрын
the white outher part was also cracked, the black parts in perfect condition, and i think for a start, it would be a fast fix, but turned out to be very difficult

Nice high voltage tester , be safe maybe there's X-ray coming from that vacuum tube.
@TeardownOZ2CPU
@TeardownOZ2CPU 6 күн бұрын
you need much higher voltage to generate measurable x-rays, and it helps a lot to have a hard metal anode made of tungsten

@@TeardownOZ2CPUunder 20kV nothing really interesting happens.... The amazing (and maaaaybeeee a tad bit dangerous) stuff starts at about 100kV.

@@albinklein7680 yes if you talk about deep penetrating radiation, but you can make a geiger counter go beep tone nuts, at just 20kv, if you use the right tube, have you see my xray video ?
