Love it! Oh man I miss crabbing! No crab in Vegas compares to catching your own! My little hidden area to crab was the docks behind the Rouge brewery in Newport (if you don’t have a boat)

That's definitely the secret spot. Next time you come out to Oregon, let's sync up and go cabbing with World According to Briggs!

Port Orford is kick ass crabbing spot. Best time is early during incoming tide. Once caught numerous crab there that were all 6.5 inches to over 8. One of the best kept secrets of the Oregon Coast. U don't need a boat, crab right at the end of the town dock 🦀🦀🦀👍😋
@WillyFish4 жыл бұрын
An 8 is rare, but they look so big when you pull up the trap or pot - you just know it's a keeper!
@MisfitsFiendClub1384 жыл бұрын
Caught all my crab using crab snares. Yes, 8+ is not common. My biggest on that dock was just over 8 and weighed 2.54 pounds on a digital scale. That specific season there was a lot of large crab, many in the 7 inch size

But what part exactly in newport???(off land)... been there and asking around dozens of times, and never an answer...
@dloren20106 ай бұрын
@@madmax8620 if you have a boat inside the bay on an incoming tide, right when it’s done coming in at SLACK. By the inside of the bay, that woodstack light that sits in the middle of the bay is a good area, all the way to the jetty a couple hundred yards in, off the tips (north side-side of the jetty has been better for us) Soak pots for two-four hours. Use fish carcasses found in the trash cans at the marina filet stations (especially if you have the stronger pots, sea lions will destroy your pots if they’re like the DanielSon or Promar cheapies). Also Waldport 15 miles south of Newport. Same thing. Incoming to slack and use bait/lure soaked (any bait cure works really) chicken also.

Whenever a go crabbing in Garibaldi, I go on the side where the rocks are. When it's low tide you can walk along the rocks and toss out your crab trap. The traps I found worked best are the ones you need to use with a fishing pole, it's hard work reeling it in but very rewarding. Every cast let it soak for 15-20 minutes and you get huge ass Dungies, left and rights!
@WillyFish2 жыл бұрын
Right on Tom! I haven't done the rod & trap technique yet, but I bet it's a ton of fun along the rocks.

@@rmoutzen that’s what’s I’ve heard. I’d love to fish or crab with ya! I live in Newport. Fish out of that port on my buddy’s 2250 Stabicraft, but he hates crabbing so I have to do it other ways. A few other friends have boats and kick me down crab often. But I love doing it too! Ain’t nothing like cooking fresh crab from the PNW!

Are there actual crabbing on the coast without a boat? which spots are best for shore crabbing/
@WillyFish4 ай бұрын
Yes, there are multiple spots to crab from the jetty or beach with a snare or foldable trap. You can also crab off 12th street in Seaside which is a really cool experience!

You can save a LOT of money by watching the ads at the local stores. Unless you own crab pots, have a steady supply of bait and live on the coast? $6.99 per pound on sale will work out a LOT cheaper than renting stuff and burning gas to make the drive. ...and motel rates if you stay the night. In al honesty? If you add everything up? Paying full price at $10.99 per pound is probably cheaper!
