the fun part is that Tom was banned at the time (for cheating his way into #1 global, funnily enough). so peppy was adamant on saying that the TP system (which was a separate program at the time that you had to download) was a virus/scam and that you should not trust Tom in any way. Once Tom hosted it in a website and it proved to be much more popular than peppy's system, he got in contact with Tom and unbanned him so he could be part of the osu! staff

my least favourite aspect of ppv1 was losing pp. you could play a new map on an easy diff and magically lose pp, but my memory of something from so long ago is really bad. I just remember the system heavily discouraging you from submitting scores that didn't add pp. Also a lot of people found an easy way to farm pp by playing maps nobody played, or just new maps
