I agree with these other subscribers Josh. You need to update to a 12 volt system. It’s a good idea. I also agree to keep the Jeep as part of the family is also a good idea. Good luck on deciding.

12 Volts-if for no other reason than it'll save having to haul a Cat battery around all Winter to jump-start everything else and feed the 2K power inverter to run your power tools on....Keep the 6V starter,too-as long as you don't crank it too long it'll last for years and turn the engine fast enough to start easily in ANY weather.

Keep it!! Reweld the front, you can add a plate to the outside to help make it more stiff, do your self a favor, replace the clutch and pressure plate and throw out bearings, replaced all the ground cables, seal the frame totally, might even check on under coat it!!

After watching your Willys videos I went ahead and ordered a tub kit from KW's. Jason called me to work out shipping stuff and I asked him about the truck and my long gravel driveway. He told me about "some KZbinr" who bought one a few weeks ago and I said "Stoney Ridge Farmer"? Yeah, that's the guy...lol. I told him you were the reason I bought the tub kit. Your frame looks great and you're right about the front end cracking. Mine did too at one time, but my 48 Cj2A was originally an Agri-Jeep and had a 265lb ballast weight on the front end so it could run rear 3 point attachments like plows and things.

Jeep USED to offer LOADS of optional tools and implements to work with the Jeep-plow,auger,sawmill,welder/generator-you name it-and you could get it already set up to fit on your Jeep and run off a rear PTO,ALSO available either as an installed option or a kit for later. There's a LOT of that stuff still out there!

I would box in the frame rails as much as I could while you got the body off. Just me. Not telling you what works for you. Love the vids. Oh I almost forgot. You need to be very careful. The front springs on those thing have a lot of travel, so much so the front end can suddenly get bite when turning a corner on pavement and roll the Jeep on you. I know this because Navy Surplus stopped auctioning them off in the 1980's for that very reason. Too many people got hurt. Please be careful.

@@StoneyRidgeFarmer I see land that way as well. Unfortunately my Grandmother didn't and when Grandaddy passed she sold the old family farm and moved to town. (She grew up in the 30's as a sharecropper in West Tennessee) We still have the family graveyard with an access road to it back behind the old farm at least. I guess that's why to me the stuff that I CAN hang on to means all the more to me.

Josh you’ve got to keep popcorn it’s a family heirloom. Also I don’t see anything wrong with the frame, welding up that front crossmember no big deal, the area in the back that you pointed out unless it’s really thin not to worry if it concerns you I will put a fish plate on the inside of the frame so it won’t show just to give it some added strength in that area. I would definitely pull the motor and transmission, I think your starter problem might’ve been that wonky ground strap.

Looks like you'll be pulling the engine , trans & transfer case soon . I believe that was the plan ? I'm no pro , but I believe that when splitting the t-case from the trans , you must remove the PTO cover and take off the nut holding the input drive gear and remove it before splitting the two . Please do research it though . I've a feeling your going to rebuild the powertrain and drivetrain .

first things first. I vote to keep the Jeep and if you decide to keep it I also vote to remove the engine and freshen it up. If your going to do a restoration might as well do it right and do it while Kieser Jeep is willing to help you out. If it was mine I would completely restore it from the ground up. Second--- On the 454 Pickup, I would do some research and find a reputable paintless dent repair on the door. Third ---- It was nice to see Mrs. Stoney Ridge, She always has a smile on.
