The 1964 model Willy's Station Wagon
Firoze Bhai’s name is and has been associated with most of Indore’s Jeep restorations. This one is arguably the best work, painstakingly undertaken over a period of 2 years. His son Naeemuddin Qureshi was instrumental in the acquisition of this rare 1964 model Willy’s Station Wagon and then procuring all the original parts from the US.
The first SUV in the world to gain mass appeal, replacing the “woodies” and offering safety. The success of the Willy's Station Wagon overshadowed that of many other models offered by Willys-Overland from 1946-1964, it also got referred to as “People’s car”.

We do try to use a tripod and gimbal, having said that the Owners and Restorers start getting conscious if the equipment is over the top and then the originality diminishes. For the RTO - one is if you buy these from Govt. approved authorized auctions then they have to give the old number. and should you wish you can get it converted to a new one without any issues. In the event you buy it from a private owner - most have them converted when the number change happened so its a regular transfer, some didn't get it converted - then the process is painful but possible. In terms of parts from the US - there is a Kaiser Willys website that has most parts available and they ship. However, to your surprise - most part are made in India between Chandigarh and Sikar. In fact both are pre approved from the US. Should you need let me know and i will share the details. This old type of Willys Station wagon was a common sight in the 1970’s and early 1980’s in Ooty and Coonoor and similar places. They were used and abused as constantly running privately operated people carriers and taxi’s for hire.

Yes they were a common sight and a lot of them were imported by UNICEF and STC. These were then later auctioned off. A few of them are rotting in Bhopal as well. They were popular in the Hill stations for sure given the number of people they could fit in these.

As for the engine - The Jeep Tornado engine debuted in the 1962 Jeep Wagoneer station wagons (today called SUV) and Jeep Gladiator pickup trucks. It was the only U.S.-built overhead-cam engine in production at that time. The engine was designed for robust, heavy-duty performance with maximum efficiency. Its excellent fuel economy was proven in tests with the Tornado-OHC engine having the lowest specific fuel consumption of all production gasoline engines on the market.[1] The Tornado, like most Jeep engines, was undersquare for better low-speed torque. It had a 3.34375 in (84.931 mm) bore with a 4.375 in (111.1 mm) stroke. The standard version had an 8.5:1 compression ratio. Output was 140 hp (100 kW) at 4000 rpm and 210 ft·lbf (280 N·m) of torque at 1750 rpm. A low-compression (7.5:1) version was also available, with 133 hp (99 kW) at 4000 rpm and 199 ft·lbf (270 N·m) of torque at 2400 rpm.

Yes they did come with tornado engine brother, but the one which you showed has a hurricane engine similar to cj3b engine, if you kindly go to wikipedia and check, tornado engine looks very much different and comes with 6cylinder, and the one you showed is a hurrican engine with 4 cylinder.

There were 3 or 4 abandoned station wagons like this in Saran (Bihar) and Ranchi, Jharkhand. They are Government vehicles. If someone can procure them it would fun to restore them. There is a similiar abandoned Toyota Landcruiser of 1960s vintage and Ambassador Saloons of around 1965 in Patna

I think the Tail lamps are having a different position and the Tail lamps are from CJ3B. Willy's Wagon have different units.

Thanks for watching - i did get on to the net and checked the 1964 models and it appears the lights are correctly placed. In the earlier models and the ones where the rear doors are different, the SW's have different lights. Most of the parts got imported from the US for this. @@itsnizgaming It all depends where you do the restoration and where the parts are sourced from. Usually if the engine is in a decent state the body work needs to be done. Any good denter, painter, electrician, underbody work incl. the leaf springs and the final being the engine work should cost you in the range of Rs 1.5 lacs. In the metro's it may go as high as Rs. 2.5 lacs
